Even though this year may feel very different, most families across Florida are still preparing for the new school year to begin. Some are planning to return to the classroom, while others have made the decision to learn virtually at home. As we prepare for the start of the new school year, our top priority is the safety, health and wellness of students, teachers and staff. Florida is a large and diverse state and Governor Ron DeSantis and Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran are working hard to ensure that local school boards and health officials have the flexibility to consider the particular needs of their individual communities as they develop plans to reopen schools safely. Governor DeSantis strongly believes that families are uniquely qualified to decide what is best for their children and they should have the choice to return to the classroom, if feasible, or learn from home. No matter where you learn this year, it's time to get ready and stock up on supplies. During the 2020 legislative session, we again passed a measure that allows you to shop for school supplies, clothing and electronics, including many computers, and pay no sales tax on eligible items. Florida's Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9. Take advantage of this opportunity to stock up on school supplies.
