New research in the Journal of Sexual Medicine suggests that American men and women who use marijuana have sex more frequently.
The study involved over 28,000 women and almost 23,000 men between the ages of 15 and 44 who were participants in the U.S. National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG). All of the participants had had intercourse with an opposite-sex partner during the preceding four weeks.
The researchers found a positive association between marijuana use and sexual frequency. In addition, those who used marijuana more often had sex more frequently.
The authors acknowledged that marijuana users might be less inhibited than non-users, a characteristic that could be reflected in their sex lives.
