Safe Ice at By-the-Lake Park

The ice surface at Wetaskiwin's By-the-Lake Park is now open to those wishing to skate, ski or walk or ice fish on it.

Please note the ice is still not thick enough for snowmobiles or other vehicles.

The City asks that you please use the ice safely. You are welcome to contact the Public Works department at 780-361-4436 if you have any concerns about the ice surface.

Navigating Our New Lanes

Are the new left-hand turning lanes causing you some confusion?

Here are a few tips on how to successfully navigate the new portion of 50 Avenue:

> The only intersections at this time with left-hand turning lanes are:
* 48 Street & 50 Avenue
* 49 Street & 50 Avenue
* 50 Street & 50 Avenue

> Please stay to the right of the road when traveling through the intersections listed above (as the middle of the road is reserved for those turning left). If you cannot see the road lines, look for nearby traffic signs to guide you.

> Slow down and stay alert for pedestrians when navigating the new intersections.

> Please ensure that you are not blocking traffic when you park your vehicle.

It is recommended that you do not park within 10 metres of the new intersections. If you have any questions please email communications@wetaskiwin.ca

Residential Snow Removal Begins

The City of Wetaskiwin has begun removing snow in residential areas.

Beginning at 36 Avenue and progressing north towards 45 Avenue, residential snow removal efforts will be accomplished with the City's available resources. Residential snow removal will be halted upon any significant snowfall so that the City may dedicate all available personnel and equipment to clearing Wetaskiwin's main corridors.

Once snow in the priority areas has been removed, residential snow removal will resume from the last area cleared and will continue until all residential streets have been completed.

Please watch for our snow removal signs. We would appreciate your help in keeping your vehicle off the roadside when we are removing snow in your area.

Please contact Public Works at 780-361-4436 with any questions.

Bench-Front Property

It's not beach-front property, but the benches installed in front of a few businesses along 50 Avenue will provide a rest stop for shoppers.

It's important the benches be kept clear of snow in the winter months, and the City encourages businesses to dust the snow off of their store-front benches.
