Reminder: Pitt Pantry Offering Critical Resources

Pitt affiliates impacted by the recent disruption in SNAP benefit disbursements are encouraged to utilize available campus and community resources, including the Pitt Pantry and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The Pitt Pantry will continue operating on its regular fall semester schedule and is closely monitoring inventory in anticipation of increased demand. All students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, and staff are welcome to visit the Pantry to supplement their nutrition with healthy, no-cost food options.
Additionally, students are encouraged to contact the Care and Resource Support Office for assistance in accessing additional resources. This office is dedicated to addressing a wide range of student needs and connecting students with appropriate support services.

The Department of Psychology has curated a vast network of opportunities, both without our department and out in the community. Opportunities for hands-on experiences can be found on our Experiential and Enhanced Learning page.

Feel free to schedule an apointment with your advisor in Pathways to discuss these opportunies or stop by drop-in advising.

Student Organization Looking for Undergraduate Leader

My name is Alissa Totman and I’m a physician at UPMC in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and one of the faculty advisors for Pitt Synapse, an undergraduate organization which provides resources for individuals with brain injury as part of a network of undergraduate chapters through Synapse National. As an undergraduate I helped lead a similar student organization, and ultimately this experience motivated me to found Synapse National and also to pursue a career in Brain Injury Medicine.

Several of the faculty and staff at UPMC Mercy are working with Pitt Synapse to build a support group for individuals with brain injury and are looking for an undergraduate to lead the chapter. Leading the Pitt Synapse chapter will be a unique and valuable opportunity for a student who is interested in serving as a leader in their community and establishing important services for an underserved population.

The deadline to apply for this opportunity is January 1st, 2026 and the application can be found here. Additional details about the process and expectations for the chapter president can be found here.

Would you be willing to share this opportunity with your students? I have attached our flier below, which contains additional details about our organization and the application process.

POST-GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

Three Fellowship Opportunities

The Marcus Autism Center, in conjunction with the Emory University School of Medicine and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is offering three fellowships: the ACCESS Fellowship in Implementation Science, the Cohen Fellowship in Developmental Social Neuroscience and the Simons Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience,

Students who will receive a bachelor's degree by June 2026 will be eligible for the positions. The fellowships will commence in July 2026, and they are 2 years in duration. Students can find further details here.

Attached, please find a brochure describing the fellowships. Please feel free to print the brochure and post it in your department. I ask that you let us know that you have received this e-mail and that you forward it, along with the associated brochure, to students in the Department of Psychology who may be interested in this opportunity.

The ACCESS Fellowship in Implementation Science will select fellows for a two-year training in research focused on community engagement participatory methods, translating evidence-based services for autism into community settings, as well as the processes and partnerships that support these efforts.

The Cohen Fellowship in Developmental Social Neuroscience will involve cutting-edge social neuroscience and/or neuroimaging research in infants, toddlers and adolescents. Fellows will work to further the understanding of autism through eye-tracking research, guiding a project from the point of data collection to publication of results.

The Simons Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience will involve integrating computational strategies with clinical research goals. Fellows will develop methods for the analysis of visual scanning and eye-tracking data, computational models of visual salience, and data visualization techniques, all with the aim of advancing the understanding of autism and efforts at early diagnosis.
