OPEN HOUSE CANCELLED

Chapter Representatives,

As some of you may have learned there was a fire here at our building (La Maison de la Francophonie) this past weekend. Fortunately no one was injured. Our neighbour's office was the source of the fire however the sprinkler system managed to keep it contained. Our office has some water damage but everything else is fine.

Out of respect and consideration for the significant clean-up and repairs underway we have decided to cancel the Open House for this coming Friday. We will be in-touch for a possible new Open House date in the New Year.

Wishing you and your chapters all the very best over the holidays,

Glyn Lewis

Executive Director / Directeur général
Canadian Parents for French BC & YukonOPEN HOUS

Joyeux Noël!

As another year comes to a close, we would like to wish you all a relaxing holiday season. The CPF BC & Yukon Branch office will be closed during the holidays. Please check the CPF BC & Yukon website for holiday hours and closure details.

Chapter Happenings

Agassiz: In the news:  http://bit.ly/Yr2byx

Gibsons - Kirsty Peterson facilitated an information session about French Immersion and Canadian Parents for French for a group of parents on the Sunshine Coast looking to lobby for French Immersion. The session was well attended by parents as well as the district superintendent and a supportive school trustee.

Surrey - In partnership with their school district Surrey hosted another successful French  film festival, filling up the Guildford Empire Theatre. Kirsty was on hand to help increase CPF visibility. Great event, enjoyed by all (including Kirsty's kids who go to school in that district)

Tofino-Ucluelet - The chapter based in the Tofino-Uclulet area is expanding its focus to include the area's First Nations community. They have spoken to two local First Nations council members who both speak...you guessed it... French! They have changed their name to Pacific Rim chapter to be more inclusive. Read about what's going on in Pacfic Rim at: http://bit.ly/Ttz06h

North Vancouver - Kirsty attended a chapter meeting in North Vancouver and had the opportunity to meet the dedicated group of people that volunteer in the North Van chapter.

les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is delighted to be a partner, for the eighth consecutive year, in celebrating the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF). For this 2013 edition, the NFB is offering francophones and francophiles across Canada three programs of film screenings along with a complementary Web component.

Discover the French “joie de vivre”! That’s the theme of the upcoming Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, and the NFB has prepared a choice of three programs on this theme so that organizations can hold a free public screening, or a number of screenings if they want to present all three programs. These programs offer films for all ages and tastes, along with a Web component featuring four films, including an animated short especially for kids.

More details can be found by reading the attached documents. Don’t wait! You only have until January 18, 2013, to register your screening(s).

Let’s all discover the French “joie de vivre”!

Théâtre la Seizième 2012-2013

LES 7 PEURS D’ÉMILIE - Eleven-year-old Émilie is afraid of everything and has only one friend – her loyal dog Sétou. While playing hide-and-seek with her parents, Émilie gets lost in a fantastic world populated with the fears that torment her the most. Armed only with her imagination and determination, she will have to solve, with the help of the students, the mysterious enigma whose answer will finally allow her to confront her fears, past, present, and future.

STATU QUO -Sarah and Adèle are about to finish high school in the village they grew up in. A village where nothing happens, ever. While, for Adèle, the future seems simple, Sarah can’t seem to find her place in it. What could she ever hope to do in a society that is so… so boring? That is, until she meets Simon, a foreigner. Confronted by this out-of-the-ordinary military brat, Sarah starts quietly documenting the nothingness of her village. An exercise that will lead her to discover hidden facets of her hometown, as well as of her own identity.

Applications open until March 1st, 2013.This program, organized by the French Ministry of Education, is now in its 108th year: it debuted in 1905 as an arrangement between France and the UK.
