An Update from our CEO

One of the things I value most about the Committee for Wyndham is the opportunity to bring our members together in different settings, from boardrooms and business forums to site visits, community spaces and major regional conversations. Each experience provides a deeper understanding of the people, organisations and industries helping shape our region.

Over the past month, our members have had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Werribee Football Club, one of Wyndham’s most successful sporting organisations, and hear more about the important community work being delivered beyond the football field. We also welcomed 90 members of Wyndham’s business community to our 15th Annual Economic Update Lunch, sponsored by Williams Landing | Cedar Woods with Commonwealth Bank Chief Economist Luke Yeaman, where the conversation explored the economic outlook and the global forces influencing business decisions over the months ahead.

These events are a reminder of the important role the Committee plays in connecting business with information, leadership and each other. They help strengthen relationships, broaden understanding and support the collective voice we take forward in our advocacy.

This edition highlights the depth of work happening across our membership, from Victoria University’s continued investment in skills and education pathways, to The Gordon’s practical AI training, the Wyndham Learning Festival, WynActive’s industry recognition, Zoos Victoria’s Wild Week campaign and WyndhamTV’s local member offer. Each story reflects the contribution our members make to a stronger, more connected and more capable region.

As our membership community continues to grow, I encourage organisations based in Wyndham, operating here, employing local people or servicing the region to consider how Committee for Wyndham membership can support their connection, visibility and contribution to the conversations shaping our future.

Behind the Scenes at Werribee Football Club

On Saturday 1 August, Committee for Wyndham members enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with Werribee Football Club, one of Wyndham’s most successful sporting organisations.

The morning began with Majok Ngong, Community Engagement Manager, who shared the important work the Club is delivering across the community, from schools programs and grant initiatives to supporting local community groups and creating positive outcomes beyond football.

Members were then taken behind the scenes by Football Manager Kyle Hartigan, who provided a rare look into the inner workings of the football department and the professionalism, preparation and teamwork behind a successful VFL program.

The experience concluded with members cheering on the mighty Werribee Tigers as they defeated the Western Bulldogs to claim the HealthWest Cup, securing their place in the top four and building strong momentum heading into the finals series.

Thank you to the entire Werribee Football Club team for providing such a memorable experience.

Opportunities like this give our members more than exclusive access. They help deepen understanding of the organisations shaping Wyndham, build meaningful relationships and strengthen the conversations that inform our advocacy on behalf of the region’s business community.

15th Annual Economic Update Lunch

If the Australian economy was a football match, what quarter would we be in?According to Commonwealth Bank Chief Economist Luke Yeaman: late in the second.

It was one of the lighter questions asked at Committee for Wyndham’s 15th Annual Economic Update Lunch, proudly sponsored by Williams Landing | Cedar Woods and Commonwealth Bank. The event brought together 90 members of Wyndham’s business community to explore the economic outlook and what it may mean for businesses over the next 6–12 months.

For the second consecutive year, Luke joined us in Wyndham, taking the conversation beyond interest rates and headlines to explore the global forces shaping local business decisions, including Australia’s relationships with China and the United States, supply chains, critical minerals and international investment.

Luke’s answer was a fitting reminder that while there are challenges ahead, some of the biggest plays may still be to come. There are also reasons to remain confident in Australia’s position and in the opportunities ahead for our region.

These are the conversations we want Wyndham’s business community to be part of, bringing businesses together with the people, perspectives and information shaping our region.

Helping Build the West’s Future Workforce

Victoria University is continuing to strengthen education and career pathways across Melbourne’s west, with the opening of the new Brimbank Tech School at VU’s Sunshine Campus.

Officially opened on 10 August, the $13.26 million facility will provide more than 13,000 secondary students from 15 partner schools with free, hands-on STEM learning experiences.

Students will work with industry-standard technology including robotics, drones, battery storage systems and virtual reality, with programs connected to future career pathways in areas such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity and health technologies.

For Melbourne’s rapidly growing west, initiatives that connect young people with emerging industries and future employment opportunities will be increasingly important in developing the skilled workforce our region needs.

The Committee for Wyndham is proud to have Victoria University as our Major Strategic Partner and to recognise the important role VU continues to play in education, skills development and creating opportunities across Melbourne’s west.

Building Practical AI Skills for the Changing Workplace

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the way we work, The Gordon is helping businesses and individuals develop practical skills to use the technology effectively and responsibly.

The Gordon's Mastering AI Conversations with Practical Prompt Engineering short course introduces participants to AI fundamentals, responsible AI use and techniques for creating more effective prompts, with a strong focus on practical workplace applications.

Delivered online over three hours, the program has been designed to make AI more accessible and provide participants with skills they can begin applying immediately in their work, study or everyday lives.

With AI adoption accelerating across industries, building the capability of our existing workforce will be just as important as preparing the next generation of workers.

The Committee for Wyndham is pleased to have The Gordon within our membership network and to see the skills and workforce development needed to help businesses adapt to a changing economy.

Recognition for innovation and community impact

Congratulations to WynActive, which has been recognised for its achievements at the 2026 Victorian Aquatics & Recreation Industry Awards.

Among its achievements, WynActive's Care Around Water Program received the Innovative Program Award, recognising its contribution to improving water safety awareness and community education across Wyndham.

Introduced in 2024, Care Around Water provides a structured approach to aquatic supervision and safety for people with disability and NDIS participants. The program has already been adopted by more than 300 support workers and 50 NDIS providers, helping create safer and more inclusive aquatic experiences within our community.

Recognition such as this highlights the innovation and commitment to community wellbeing taking place right here in Wyndham.

Dress Up. Raise Funds. Fight Extinction.

Zoos Victoria’s Wild Week offers schools, businesses and individuals a ready‑made opportunity to demonstrate community leadership while supporting a high‑profile conservation initiative.

Held during National Threatened Species Week, the campaign encourages participants to “go wild” with themed dress‑up days, fundraising challenges or matched‑giving activities - all contributing to Zoos Victoria’s work protecting critically endangered Victorian species.

Highlighting species such as the Helmeted Honeyeater, Orange‑bellied Parrot and Mountain Pygmy‑possum, the campaign connects participants to local environmental challenges in a way that feels accessible and energising.

Lifelong Learning for a Thriving Future

The Wyndham Learning Festival is an annual event held from 1-7 September, offering free learning activities across various locations in Wyndham. Since 2016, it has brought together local groups, businesses, and individuals to deliver a wide range of workshops, seminars, and experiences for all ages.

Led by Committee for Wyndham member, Wyndham Community & Education Centre and supported by another member, Wyndham City Council, the Festival aims to promote lifelong learning and personal growth.

Each year, it adopts a new theme to reflect the community’s evolving needs, continuing to grow with new events, sponsors, and participants. For 2026 the theme is: Community, Diversity, & Lifelong Learning.
