Experts: Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing is Important for Young Women
Young women should be screened for chlamydia and gonorrhea, a panel of experts says.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has made this recommendation for sexually-active women aged 24 and younger. Older women at high risk for sexually-transmitted infections should also be screened.
Chlamydia and gonorrhea are two of the most common sexually-transmitted infections. Unfortunately, many infected women do not have symptoms and are unaware of their status.
Both infections can be treated with antibiotics. Left untreated, they can have serious health consequences.

Male Contraceptive Gel Tested in Animals
Scientists have developed a polymer gel that could eventually become a long-term contraceptive option for men.
The product, Vasalgel, has been tested in rabbits and is currently being tested in baboons.
If the animal studies are successful, testing in humans could begin next year.
Vasalgel is given as an injection. It works by blocking the pathway that sperm use to mix with semen.
It's possible that the contraceptive effects of Vasalgel could be reversed by flushing it out of the pathway.
