1. ASF continues to spread globally; but positive news coming from China

African Swine Fever (ASF) is continuing to spread in Europe, Asia, Philippines, and Africa, with thirty more ASF cases identified in Germany and a major outbreak reported in Tanzania. Meanwhile, China has reported an unexpected recovery in its pork output following the hog industry being decimated in 2019.

5. Deadly botulism paralysis may be reversed by novel treatment

A Boston children’s hospital has proposed a novel treatment for botulism that has the potential to reverse its deadly paralysis. Botulism is a rare poisoning caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum, but it can be fatal and requires immediate emergency medical care.
