Testosterone Therapy May Benefit Men Over Age 65

A man's testosterone levels gradually decrease as he gets older.  It's a normal part of aging, but it can also lead to muscle weakness, moodiness, and sexual problems.

Can testosterone replacement therapy help? The topic has been controversial. But new research published in The New England Journal of Medicine suggests that testosterone therapy could have benefits for men over age 65.

Researchers discovered that when compared to a placebo group, men taking testosterone tended to have more sexual desire and improved erections. They also had sex more often.

HPV Raises Risk for Head and Neck Cancers

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually-transmitted infections.

The term actually refers to over a hundred virus strains. Some of them are dangerous, leading to cervical, penile, and anal cancers, among others. Genital warts can also be caused by HPV infection.

Recently, a study in JAMA Oncology found that one particular strain of HPV, if found in the mouth, raised a person's risk for oropharyngeal cancer, which affects parts of the throat and tongue, the soft palate, and the tonsils.

How does HPV get in the mouth? Experts think oral sex is the culprit. Learn more.
