Invitation to Participate in the 2016 Green Sports Streetwear Design Competition

The Green Sports Alliance is excited to introduce our first-ever Sustainable Streetwear & Athleisure Fashion Show at the 2016 Green Sports Alliance Summit in Houston, Texas on June 29, 2016.

Students enrolled in programs related to design and fashion will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to produce creative pieces with sustainability in mind. 

Participants are asked to create cutting-edge streetwear & athleisure designs and ready to wear products made out of fabrics produced with recycled material.  Designs will be showcased by models at the Green Sports Alliance’s Green Sports Celebration on June 29, 2016 at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Winners of the competition will be selected by event attendees.

• Be in the running to have your designs featured in your campus bookstore.
• Your design will be added to Renew Merchandise line of products and presented to the fashion world. Students will gain invaluable experience on how product is brought to market.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: 11:59 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2016.

SELECTION OF WINNER: All designs will be judged by the following criteria. Winning designs will be selected by event attendees.

• Design: Uniqueness, simplicity but attractiveness and alignment with overall theme, clean, and well-constructed. Combine high fashion athletic apparel with sustainable design.
• Creativity: Number of recycled and repurposed materials used, designs are relevant to both recycling and athletic wear.
• Originality: Designs must be unique to design teams. Please do not replicate a design from another company. Create a buzz with attendees to see and understand the value of recycling.
• Messaging: Educate and inspire the audience that designs made out of recycled materials can be fashionable and functional.

Important Deadlines for Participation:

• April 1st: Entry to Participate (limited to the first 30 schools)
• April 22nd: Material and sizing charts arrive from Renew Merchandise*
• May 30th: Designs shipped to Renew Merchandise and any decorating requests
• June 28th: Size adjustments for models at the event
