We trust that everyone had a wonderful holiday and are now ready to continue embracing the ongoing opportunities at Kennedy. Term 3 promises to be an exciting term with many major events on our calendar. As we start a new semester, I would like to highlight our mission and values that drive the learning experience at the College. Kennedy endeavours to provide educational opportunities of excellence in a Christian context. In doing so, the needs for lifelong learning are also addressed. All staff at Kennedy are committed to this mission through our Christian ethos and the values of Faith, Integrity, Boldness, Growth, and Service. Parent-Teacher InterviewsNow that semester reports have been issued; all families have the opportunity to meet with teaching staff to further discuss student achievement and progress. Parent-Teacher Interview bookings are now available for families to arrange the best suited time to meet with relevant teachers on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. In addition to the interviews, we have several activities which are relevant to
parents and/or students. For example, our annual Careers Expo will be held on Tuesday afternoon/evening, and our Pastoral Care and Research and Study Centre staff will be conducting workshops on Wednesday designed to support and equip parents. We encourage all families to make the most of these opportunities. Awards AssemblyIt was a pleasure to celebrate the Year 10-12 achievements at our Awards Assembly yesterday. The presentation of excellence and achievement certificates promotes and highlights the exceptional standards being achieved by our students. Congratulations to recipients of these significant awards. We look forward to honouring our Year 7-9 students at their Awards Assembly on Wednesday 4 August at 8.45am in the Auditorium. Other events including Athletics Carnivals, Dance Showcase, Drama and Music Performances as well as our Community Open Day, mean that we have a full and engaging program this term. We look forward to sharing these moments with you and your child. Mr Mark Ashby Chaplain DevotionI would like to add my welcome back to our Kennedy community. Thank you to those that let me know about a movie you watched in the holidays that displayed something to you of the Kingdom of God. Last term I mentioned the “Great Story” that is playing out before us. I managed to catch a couple of movies that I added to my growing list. Movies that reinforce the view that humanity was made to flourish within God’s design. I watched the new Marvel movie Black Widow, which has the theme of family overcoming brokenness. All the main characters are driven by hope and longing for a loving father, as well as a desire to have the wounds of rejection and isolation healed by the security of loving acceptance. I often find myself in conversations with people that ask about faith in God, curious why I believe in Jesus Christ. In these conversations, I am asked “do you have any proof that God is real?” For some, my response is not the proof they are looking for, but my common reply is to ask about what they would put on the list of the most vital moral character traits needed in humanity. What do I mean by moral character traits? The question I ask is, "Describe the character and attributes of the best version of humanity that we could know?" Regardless of the culture, throughout the whole world, the answer to the best version of humanity is the same. Generous, courageous, sacrificial love, peace, joy, kindness, patience. Generally, the human we all describe is a combination of the character of one man. He said of Himself that He is the Son of God, through Him all the earth was made. Jesus Christ is the King of the Kingdom of God. Kennedy NewsProtect Your DeviceMalwarebytes is a comprehensive security program that blocks malware and hackers.
