Bushfire information sessions

THE 2015 Fire and Burning Information Booklet will soon be
mailed to residents along with the Fire Break and Fuel Load Notice.
These documents detail information about bush fire preparedness
including Building Protection Zones, burning garden refuse, and Shire services available to assist residents. Information sessions on
emergency preparedness by the Shire’s emergency management,
environment and planning services will be held in September. There
will be the opportunity to speak with officers one-on-one and/or listen to a presentation by officers at a set time. For more information contact the Shire on 9290 6696 or email shire@mundaring.wa.gov.au.

Elected Members honoured at WALGA awards

FOUR Elected Members from Shire of Mundaring are proud to have been honoured with Local Government Awards. The WA Local Government Association hosted the 2015 Local Government Honours Awards on 5 August. Shire President Cr Helen Dullard was awarded the Eminent Service Award and Cr Tony Cuccaro received a Long and Loyal Service Award. Councillors John Daw and Alan Pilgrim were awarded the Local Government Merit Award. Read more here.

Information session for potential candidates - 2015 LG Elections

There will be six vacant positions on Council for the 2015 Local Government Elections, to be held on Saturday 17 October. Find out how to nominate, the obligations and responsibilities of elected members, and the level of commitment required to perform community and civic duties.

Bulk verge collections 2015

Bulk verge collections are scheduled for all suburbs in
August or September. Please visit the website or see the Waste and Recycling Calendar in your rates pack for dates.
Waste must not be placed on your verge more than two weeks prior to your collection date. For more information click here or phone 9290 6666 and select option two.

Thank a Volunteer Day 2015

SHIRE of Mundaring is currently calling for nominations for the annual Thank a Volunteer Day (TAVD). Local volunteers will be acknowledged at an event in late November. This year, people can nominate volunteers in six categories; Community / Other Groups, Environment / Arts, School Groups (including P&C volunteers); Sporting Groups, Emergency Services and Lifetime Contributor. Bilgoman receives Waterwise endorsement

SHIRE of Mundaring’s Bilgoman Aquatic Centre has been endorsed as a Waterwise Aquatic Centre. The Waterwise Aquatic Centre program is a joint initiative between the Water Corporation and the Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA Aquatics) to recognise aquatic and leisure centres’ commitment to saving water in their facilities. Bilgoman Aquatic Centre was formally endorsed as water wise at the LIWA Aquatics State Conference dinner last week, with Centre Manager Chris Blankley accepting a certificate. Read more here.

Native animal encounters await at Trek

PARTICIPANTS in this year’s Trek the Trail event will be able to enjoy interacting with native animals as part of the event. Trek the Trail is a free, family walking, running and cycling event along various sections of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. There will be various stallholders and activities. Nearer to Nature will be bringing along a joey and echidna for children to meet on the day, read stories about other marsupials and conduct art activities. Read more here.

Shire proud to co-host National Children’s Event

SHIRE of Mundaring’s Midvale Hub was proud to co-host a National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day event in Stratton this month. The event was held at the Shire’s Swan Children and Family Centre and co-hosted by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC). Shire President Cr Helen Dullard said it was a fantastic day for everyone involved. Read more here.
