Excellence in research training was an important topic throughout and many discussions were had about skills development, careers, industry engagement/collaboration, student mental health and wellbeing, and supervision. It was a great opportunity to hear what is happening in this space and where the sector is heading.
EventsWorking with your Supervisor - Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences The relationship you have with your supervisor is crucial in determining your PhD experience. They are your primary source of guidance as you undertake an individual research project and even the best student/supervisor relationships can experience periods of strain through the ups and downs of research. Introduction to SPSS for Statistics SPSS is a widely used program for statistical analyses. This workshop presented by the School of Mathematical Sciences is aimed at HDR students with a need for statistical analysis using SPSS but who have limited experience with this software. Please note this workshop does not cover statistics theory, it assumes students already have knowledge of introductory-to-intermediate level statistical analysis. 2 October 2019, 9:00am - 4:00pm, North Terrace. Clinical Research: Establishing Investigator Initiated Trials If your career is in the health industry, it is likely to be influenced by Clinical Research – whether as part of your course or in your next job, understanding clinical research will be key. NewsResearch Leaders 2025 (RL2025) The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority (Teagasc) is pleased to launch Research Leaders 2025 Call-2, an innovative postdoctoral fellowship scheme focused on developing the next generation of research leaders in the agri-food domain. Genomes and Biodiversity: Research and Career Development workshop The Australian Academy of Science invites early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) and PhD students in the life sciences to apply to attend the Genomes and Biodiversity: Research and Career Development workshop. Hear from research leaders, receive hands-on training in analysis of big data delivered by experts in genomics, phylogenomics, biodiversity analysis, and pathogen biology, and participate in career development sessions. Data Science Fellowship Opportunity (USA) The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. The program runs between 13 Jan 2020 and 6 March 2020 and is free for admitted Fellows who have the option to participate in the program in-person in New York, San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, or Washington DC. The Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) Program and Scholarship IEP scholarships are now available to support eligible domestic and international students who undertake an industry placement. The University of Adelaide’s Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) program involves participation in an industry placement of 1-3 months (FTE) in duration, together with the completion of a number of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and other professional development activities. Completion of the IEP, including the compulsory CaRST credit courses, will be reflected as a statement on the academic transcript.
