Welcome 2018
Great stories ahead March 2018 Edition
It always excites us, seeing how technology can improve children’s learning and health and safety. Digital Portfolios for Children While the physical portfolios are still important, we have launched Educa, a digital portfolio software for children, providing access to the whole Whanau. Since launching, we are
already seeing engagement from Whanau. E.g. In some cases, parents are uploading learning stories of their child, after hours (in their own homes). Helping build a stronger bond with the educators and the visiting teacher. Parents can also get access to learning resources, which we will be posted from time to time on Educa! We would love for parents and educators to comment on learning stories, to help shape a brighter future for children! Login now, or request for access through our friendly staff.
Enhancing safety for Children Having health and safety, be a core value of Cute Kids. Last year, we rolled out iPads for our Visiting teachers, to take on visits for house checks. This is a first of a kind initiative for an NZ based home-based child care provider. The iPad helps teachers manage the 35+ safety checks digitally, with real-time reporting built in, providing visibility to the entire Cute Kids team for peer reviews. This has been super successful in helping lift the bar for Health and Safety across New Zealand

5 Ways to Inspire Creativity Inspire Creativity in Children Prepare for a mess. Set up an art space where your kid can be free to experiment (and get messy!). Throw a drop cloth or a newspaper on top of your kitchen table or in the garage. If weather permits, let kids paint outside.Avoid giving direction. Don't tell your
kid what to make or how to make it. Instead of saying, "Paint a rainbow," encourage them to experiment with mixing colors using different types of brushes and paper.Speak specifically about art. When talking to your child about his artwork, try to be precise in your comments. For instance, instead of giving a generic compliment, try saying, "I see you used a lot of purple. Why did you choose that color?"Explore your child's process. Often the best way to encourage conversation about your child's art is simply to say, "Tell me about what you made," or ask, "Did you have fun making it?"Let it be. When a child finishes a piece, don't suggest additions or changes. It's important for a child to feel that what she's created is enough -- even if it's just a dot on the page.
Let the child lead!
Storytime The Great Fish Of Māui Away in the sourthern
corner of the wide and expansive Pacific Ocean, there lies a land, shimmering in the morning sun. The land known as Te Ika-a-Māui. Māui-potiki was not liked by his brothers. They were jealous of him & a little afraid of his magic powers, so they did not include him on any hunting or fishing trips. One night,Māui heard his brother's talking. They were going fishing the next day & were planning to leave early to avoid Māui. Quickly, Māui made his way to the secret cave. He reached down behind a rock & pulled out his grandmother's jawbone. Cradling it in his hands,Māui trembled as he felt the power pulsing through it. This will be hook,he thought to himself. Silently, he crept away to is brother's waka. He climbed in and hid under some flax mats that lay on the floor.Feeling pleased with himself,he soon fell asleep.
