The Nearer to Nature July school holidays program, 'Winter Warmers' offers plenty of fun, hands-on activities, bringing kids of all ages up close and personal with nature.

All the activities listed below are all held at Perth Hills Discovery Centre, 380 Allen Road, Mundaring (near Mundaring Weir). For a full list of activities throughout Perth visit the Nearer to Nature website.

The Hike Collective - School Holiday program

This school holidays, let your kids wild side explode, through this range of guided hiking experiences, helping children get into nature, get their hands dirty and have fun learning new skills. The Hike Collective's program is run over two weeks, with two sessions per week. You can choose to join one session, or multiple. Each session covers different topics. Find out more about these activities here.

Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier at Marloo Theatre

Shows commence Wednesday 7 July
Hop on your flying carpet, because this musical parody retells the classic tale of Aladdin... from the villain's point of view. Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief to ever live. Blind Tasting Whiskey Night at ParkervilleTavern

Tuesday 6 July
This will be a fun way to warm up on a cold, winter's evening! Head to The Parky for an evening of blind whiskey tasting. You will receive 4 different drams of 4 different whiskies, along with tasting notes on each one. It's up to you to match the tasting notes with the correct whiskey.

Mundaring Garden & Farmers Markets

Saturdays 10 & 24 July (fortnightly)
The new Mundaring Garden and Farmers Market celebrates garden and fresh produce with some amazing local businesses.

Located near Sculpture Park, currently fortnightly on Saturday mornings (once there are more stall holders on board it is planned for this to switch to a weekly markets).

Michelle Campbell’s solo exhibition investigates the psychological impact of the changing urban landscape. 

Gallery 2 - Food for Thought
Food for Thought welcomes the community to share food, skills and conversations about food culture. The exhibition showcases the result of skill sharing workshops between master artists and the local community as part of the project.

Perth Hills Artisan Markets - Postponed

Due to the current restrictions and tiered re-opening schedule, the Perth Hills Artisan Markets, which was to be held on Sunday 11 July at Mundaring Arena, has unfortunately had to be postponed.

Eagle View Highlights at Twilight with The Hike Collective

Sunday 11 July
Explore John Forrest National Park with this 6km guided hike on the incredible Eagle View Trail to the magnificent lookout and return. Climb snaking trails leading to elevated vistas along the Darling Scarp and take in the rich history of WA’s first National Park.  Hike commences 3pm. View event on Facebook here

Sadly, this month's Rotary Sunday Markets is another victim of the current COVID restrictions. So, be sure to pop the date for the August markets (Sunday 8 August) into your calendar!

Mundaring Arts Centre - Tiny Clay Houses with Kaitlyn Elsegood

Wednesday 14 July
Build a house out of clay inspired by Michelle Campbell's exhibition Urban with Kaitlyn Elsegood. Drawing from the houses in Michelle's paintings, their own home, or their imagination, kids will learn ceramic hand building techniques to make a small house in this fun, hands-on workshop.

Juniper Galleries - This month's exhibitions

Short Street Kitchen - Wholesome Treats workshop

Saturday 17 July
Most people love a sweet treat - this is reflected in the fact that worldwide sugar consumption has increased 46% in the past 30 years. Most of the sugar we consume isn't easy to spot and is often "hidden" in processed and packaged food, takeaway food and soft drinks. Twilight Abseiling and Gourmet Pizza

Bibbulmun Track Foundation - Social Sunday Walk

Sunday 18 July
If you are fit and experienced then this is a perfect walk for you! A 23.5km return hike starting at Perth Hills Discovery Centre to the new Helena Campsite via Ball Creek Campsite, led by Foundation volunteers. Walk past flowing creeks, through mixed jarrah forest and wandoo forest and also take a break at the Helena campsite with amazing views from high up the valley.  Walk commences 8.30am. Off the Beaten Track WA - Christmas Tree Creek Midweek Meander

Wednesday 21 July
The Christmas Tree Creek Walk within John Forrest National Park provides panoramic views of the city skyline, multiple creek crossings, spectacular waterfalls and an abundance of wildflowers. This half day hike (10.5km) with an Off the Beaten Track WA guide starts 10am. More information here

Mundaring Arts Centre - Artist Talks

Saturday 24 July
Join some of the artists behind the Food for Thought project, Bernard Kerr and Josephine Clarke, in conversation with Jenny Kerr as they discuss the stories and outcomes of a series of community workshops held since February. A selection of writers from the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre will also share their poems produced during workshops.

‘Open All Hours’, Mundaring & Hills Historical Society’s new museum exhibition is now open. Telling the story of shops and shopping in the Shire of Mundaring, from the 1880s to the 1980s – a time when most shops were still family-run businesses that were an integral part of the community. Featuring items from Wells General Store, a Mundaring institution between 1911 and 1958. Indian Cooking Classes in the Perth Hills
