Director's Message

We're pleased to be supporting the Visualise your Thesis competition in 2019, which represents the University of Adelaide's first year of participation. Similar to the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, Visualise your Thesis is a research communication challenge designed for graduate students, with one point of difference: students must present their research in a 60-second, digital display. This is a great opportunity for HDR students to get creative and build their digital literacy skills.

Director, CaRST

Three Minute Thesis Information Session

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an annual skills development activity that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes using a single PowerPoint slide. This information session is recommended for students who are considering or intending to participate in the 2019 competition. 4 June 2019, 10am - 11am, North Terrace OR online via live stream. Register here.

This activity counts for 1 credit in Domain D.

NVivo Basics

While collecting data has never been easier, the bigger challenge is bringing it all together in a meaningful way. NVivo is powerful software purpose-built for qualitative and mixed-methods research data. Attend this workshop to learn how to create your own NVivo project, import & create items, and code or analyse your literature and data. 6 June 2019, 9:30am - 1pm, North Terrace. Register here. (Limited places available - nearly full)

This activity counts for 4 credits in Domain A.

NVivo Intermediate

Are you comfortable with the basics of using NVivo and want to learn more? Attend this workshop to learn how to query and explore your data with a variety of interrogation queries and visual instruments. 13 June 2019, 9:30am - 1pm, North Terrace. Register here.

This activity counts for 4 credits in Domain A.

Literature reviews and review papers: constructing compelling arguments

Please bring a recent review paper from your own research field, plus the current draft of your own literature review. We will apply the analysis framework from Cargill & O’Connor’s Writing scientific research articles; Strategy and steps to analyse recent examples of review articles. The goal is to understand their construction and the language and organisational features that contribute to their arguments. We will then consider which of these features and structures can usefully be applied in thesis literature reviews. 14 June 2019, 1:10pm - 5pm, Charles Hawker Conference Centre, Waite Campus. Contact paws@clubs.auu.org.au to register.

This activity counts for 4 credits in Domain D.
