Funding alert from 'we can move'

27 June 2020
Welcome to your funding alert. Here you will find local funding opportunities to support your idea or project.

These are really strange times and we know many of you are still supporting your local community. There is new information on funding coming out everyday, here is some of it. Keep an eye out for future funding alerts.

Sport England and Active Gloucestershire – support with essential work

As we all know, the impact of Covid-19 has affected a huge number of community groups across the UK. Active Gloucestershire would like to support local groups who are making a big difference in their area, but are struggling to deliver their activities at the moment.

We are offering our support, including a small amount of funding, and would love to hear from:

  • Established groups, organisations or charities.
  • Those needing support/funding to keep your work going, so you can continue your work after restrictions ease.
  • Those whose work helped to get people moving through physical activity before lockdown, or those who intend to do so after restrictions ease.

What we will need to know:

  • What you do.
  • Who you help.
  • How you aim to get people moving.
  • What you hope to achieve.
  • What support you require and why (if this is funding, how much do you require and and how will this help you to continue your work).

Please send us an email with this information and your contact details, and we will get in touch to try and help.

Sport England Crowdfunding Support: Active Together

Sport England has committed another £1 million to help combat the impact of Covid-19 by matching the money raised by sports clubs and community groups through the fundraising platform, Crowdfunder.

Sport England are matching crowd funds of up to £10,000.

Who does this include?

  • Local sports clubs.
  • Charity, community, voluntary and social enterprise sector organisations that deliver sport and/or physical activity in their community.
  • Organisations that are not solely or primarily sports organisations.

Clubs and organisations can sign up through the Crowdfunder website. You will need to set a crowdfunding target and put in place incentives and rewards.

Once 25% of the crowdfunding is met, Sport England will confirm whether it will match the funding – up to £10,000 – and can distribute the money within seven days of it being raised.

The Barnwood Trust – support physical distancing scheme

The Supported Physical Distancing Scheme aims to enable anyone who is  struggling to leave their home to access outside places and spaces for the benefit of their mental wellbeing. Barnwood Trust would like to support Gloucestershire venues and organisations to work together to help create these opportunities, with assured physical distancing in place.

Barnwood Trust is looking to make a maximum of ten grants between June and the beginning of August, and invites applications from organisations who have access to outdoor space or the ability to manage spaces and/or activities. If your organisation doesn't meet these requirements, you are encouraged to contact others who do and make a joint application.

How to apply:

  1. Submit your application via the Barnwood Trust website.
  2. Please add in block capitals: SUPPORTED DISTANCING SCHEME before your organisation name in this section of the application.
  3. Make clear in your application how you will meet the criteria represented in the attached outline of the scheme.
  4. Apply for the amount of funding that will enable you to run your scheme until September.

Get in touch with Georgia from Barnwood Trust with any questions you have or if you would like to talk through your idea.

Independent Age – community grants fund

Independent Age promotes independent living among older people and has launched a £2 million Independent Age Grants Fund to help smaller charities across the UK who work with older people and have been hit hardest by Covid-19.

The funding will be made available over four separate funding rounds. In each round, Independent Age will make £500,000 available.

To be considered for the grant, programmes will need to support one of the following two ‘groups:’

1. Older people living in particularly complex and challenging situations. This can include older people who:

  • have no network of family, friends or community to call on
  • have a disability or long-term health condition
  • care for a dependent adult with learning disabilities or dementia
  • face other circumstances that make it harder to manage at this challenging time.

2. Older people in danger of being out of sight and out of mind. This includes organisations connecting with older people who are very isolated and most at risk of missing out on help from the government or charities that serve wide client groups.

The deadlines for applications are:

  • 2 July 2020
  • 21 August 2020
  • 18 September 2020.
