Neurofact

Neurological Alliance Chief Executive, Arlene Wilkie, said: “Over 12 million people in England live with a neurological condition, but too many are let down by our health and social care system. Less than a year away from the next general election, it is vital that the neurological community presents some strong neurology-wide messages to politicians and policy-makers.”

With A Letter in Mind

You may have heard us talking about A Letter in Mind, The National Brain Appeal’s art event, on Twitter and Facebook. But what is it all about?

Over the past few of months, we have been asking artists and designers to create a unique piece of art using a simple white  envelope and the title, A Letter in Mind, as the starting point.

Each artist was sent a pack containing the all-important white envelope and the response has been amazing. We’ve had hundreds of entries from across the country, from established and emerging names in the worlds of art and design, illustration, graphic design, fashion and craft. Their envelopes have been built in, drawn on, painted, written on, wired, collaged, sewn and even had artworks sealed inside them! It’s so exciting to see the different interpretations and all the things that can be done with a simple white envelope.

We've had some high profile names creating masterpieces for us as well - Grayson Perry, Billy Childish, Elisa Sighicelli, Natasha Kidd, Avis Underwood, Threadneedle Prize exhibitor Gill Rocca, Frank Kiely, Association of Illustrators 2014 winner Chris Haughton and RIBA award-winning architect Amin Taha to name but a few. Not only that, our esteemed Headliners are getting in on the act too: Sophie Thompson, winner of this year's Celebrity Masterchef, has recently submitted her piece!

The envelope artworks will all be priced at £80 and sold anonymously at the exhibition, at the gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, in aid of The National Brain Appeal. Only when the exhibition ends will the artist’s name and biography be revealed. This means you may have the chance to own a Grayson Perry for less than £100!

Pop Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 October 2014 in your calendar - we'll see you there!

A Letter in Mind Exhbition: gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse Street, South Bank, London, SE1 9PH. For directions visit www.oxotower.co.uk

Pyjama Party

No need to drench yourself in freezing water, you can help us fundraise just by staying cosy! Put on your PJs and organise an event between 18 to 26 October. It could be as simple as rallying colleagues or classmates to wear their pyjamas to work or school for a donation to The National Brain Appeal.

This year's designated Pyjama Day is Friday 24 October so why not make this your day for jammies - register today and spread the word now!

Back to school - why not encourage your kids or grandchildren to get their whole class or school to have a pyjama day? It’s the perfect time to speak to teaching staff to gear them up to organise a Pyjama Day for the last day of this half-term.

Schools like Swallowfield Lower School (pictured above) fundraised in their onesies last year - well done girls!
