Vermont Works for Women helps women and girls recognize their potential and explore, pursue, and excel in work that leads to economic independence. They work toward the day when women and girls make confident, deliberate choices about life and work that reflect an expansive grasp of the world’s possibilities, a fearless commitment to pursuing their dreams, and that contribute to the vitality of our communities. The MINT: Rutland’s Makerspace is delighted to be hosting Vermont Works for Women for their 2021 Trailblazers program.
The MINT will soon be hosting exciting new programming that aims to address historic inequalities in the construction trades. The
Vermont Works for Women’s Trailblazers: Women in the Construction Trades prepares women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals for jobs and apprenticeships in reliable high paying work in construction, electrical, plumbing, and manufacturing. The training will provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment for folks to build skills, gain confidence and explore fields that tend to be male-dominated, but where research shows time and again women have equal abilities to thrive and succeed. An informational session takes place at 6 pm on September 9th. For more information, contact Program Manager Missy Mackin at mmackin@vtworksforwomen.org or visit vtworksforwomen.org/trailblazers Learn more about The MINT→
Fox Creek Inn was built in 1830 as a country house and opened as an inn in 1975, It has had several names--Fiftepine Lodge, Tulip Tree Inn, and most recently Fox Creek Inn. The home was bought by William Barstow, a philanthropist who was one of the nation's first electrical engineers, for his son Frederic to serve as a hunting lodge. William Barstow entertained the likes of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone. You can also add: The Barstow family was instrumental in Chittenden's history and built the Fox Creek Inn as well as Mountain Top Inn
and Resort (then known as Mountain Top Lodge), the Frederic Duclos Barstow Memorial School, and the Vermont Silver Fox Company. Although the Fox Creek Inn closed in late 2018, Rita and Corey Wood bought the Inn in June of this year and are eager to preserve the history of such an icon in Chittenden. They will be offering full breakfasts including homemade muffins, fruit cups, and breakfast entrees with homemade toast, Jacuzzi tubs, and fireplaces in most rooms but Rita and Corey have added an optional picnic basket lunch as well as a homemade dinner.
