![]() ![]() ![]() A Message from Jerry Salvador - Head of School As we start to wind down to the end of term on June 5th, I am struck by the resilience shown by our staff and students over the last few months. One of our school’s key ‘pillars’ is Character and there is no better demonstration of character than resilience in the face of adversity. Our staff and students have shown great strength of character in how they have adapted to the demands placed on them by the pandemic. Whether it is staff and students embracing new technologies and ways of learning to ensure education continues, or how our community quickly dispersed around the world to ensure they remained safe and well; we have been part of an incredible collective effort to deal effectively with an unprecedented situation. I am proud of how Brookes Westshore has played our part in this effort. I would like to thank you all for how you have supported each other and helped to keep your communities safe and well. With kind regards, ![]() Jerry Salvador ![]() A Message from Linda Bayes - VP of Academics I would like to invite all the families of students in Grades 6 to 8 to join us for a Celebration of Learning on Friday June 5th at 1.30 pm. This is an important and significant first step in Brookes Westshore’s journey to becoming a ‘continuum’ school – offering the full range of International Baccalaureate programmes from Grade 2 to 12. This is a great opportunity for younger students to experience what makes Brookes Westshore such a unique and positive learning environment. The students in this pioneering class will be taught by teachers from our current faculty. If you would like more information please contact me at admissions@westshore.brookes.org For local families - you should have received a notice this week for next school year's fees. Please check your email as it may have gone into your spam/junk folder. ![]() ![]() The images in this week's newsletter are all from Grade 11 art classes with Ms Eva Campbell. The project was called Concepts and Art. Students explored a concept such as " Love", "Fear" "Home" "Identity" and others. They first researched artists whose work depicted the concept. Then they wrote a short presentation and finally made their own art piece expressing the concept. To be safe they were not supposed to go out and buy art materials like paints if they did not have any. Instead, they were allowed to use any materials of their choice in their home - so mixed media collage from nature, photography, markers etc. Special thanks to Angel, Josefa, William, Will and Yui for their work. ![]() ![]() In Grade 6, students are learning about our universe and what we can see in the night sky. They learned that different stars have different properties and can be identified by their size, colour, temperature, chemical composition, and their stage in the star life cycle. Students learned that stars can look and behave very differently depending on how old they are and how massive they are. Our star—the Sun—is an average star that will turn into a red giant in approximately 5 billion years! ![]() ![]() Thanks to all our families for your support and sense of community during this time.
