Summer Meals Program Pairs Fun with Nourishment

Meet 12 year-old Luis and his four year-old brother, Jacob. These boys are enjoying the Summer Meal program at the Community Life Center at Northwest Church in Lynnwood. When school let out in June, students like Luis are left without access to the free/reduced lunches provided for them at school. Our summer meal program, coordinated for the school district, steps in to fill this gap as we operate at three locations in Lynnwood and Edmonds. The program, available to all children, is created through partnerships with the YMCA and FareStart, and is sponsored by Verdant Health Commission and The Everett Clinic at Edmonds. Each Monday – Thursday, students are invited to enjoy a free meal, participate in fun physical activities as well as educational opportunities to learn about healthy eating and living. Running through August 24, our program has room to welcome more friends to join in the fun. Learn more about the program on our website, and check out the article on the program from The Herald.

Hazel Miller Back to School Basics Program Returns This Fall

With a generous grant from the Hazel Miller Foundation, the Foundation supplies teachers with much needed classroom supplies through the Hazel Miller Back to School Basics Program. Grants of up to $125 are awarded to teachers. This year, the program will roll out in the fall and will incorporate a new lottery format. Interested teachers can submit their names to the Foundation for consideration and a lottery draw.  Selected teachers will have two weeks to shop and submit their receipts for reimbursement of up to $125. Interested teachers should head to our website for complete details and to enter the lottery . Names will be collected for the lottery until Friday, October 13. This program is extremely popular with teachers and on their behalf, we thank the Hazel Miller Foundation for their support!
