Exploration activity heats up in Taranaki

PEPANZ member Schlumberger has lodged an application to undertake a large seismic survey off the Taranaki coast.

It’s a good positive vote of confidence in our industry and the exciting potential for further exploration around New Zealand.

PEPANZ has welcomed this and pushed back strongly against scaremongering by Greenpeace in the media. Our CEO Cameron Madgwick has been interviewed by Fairfax media and Maori radio station Radio Waatea, as well as being active on social media to explain how surveying works and the benefits it can bring.

PEPANZ's submission on 'Low-emissions economy'

As part of our role in representing our members to the Government, PEPANZ has made a formal submission on the Productivity Commission's issues paper "Low emissions economy."

We've also met with senior officials to talk through our key messages, including the role natural gas can play in lowering emissions and the need for fair, predictable policy.

All aboard the Taranaki Tour

The PEPANZ team is leading another educational ‘Taranaki Tour’ later this month, taking officials from the Ministry for the Environment and MBIE on a two-day tour of production sites and meeting with key players in the region.

PEPANZ joins IPIECA

PEPANZ is proud to now be an association member of IPIECA - the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues.

IPIECA is the only global association involving both the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry, and is also the industry’s main channel of communication with the United Nations.

IPIECA’s Executive Director Brian Sullivan will be a keynote speaker at the 2018 New Zealand Petroleum Conference in Wellington next year.

Strong interest in 2018 New Zealand Petroleum Conference

Last month we put out a final call for expressions of interest in presenting at the 2018 New Zealand Petroleum Conference. It’s great to see more than 90 abstracts have been submitted, leaving the Programme Review Committees with a tough job of deciding the final programme.

The three streams of the conference are:

Technology & Engineering
Geoscience
Community, Commercial & Regulatory

The conference theme is "Poised for Action, Ready for Growth" and registrations are now open.

$7.6 million for gas hydrates research

A major new GNS Science research project into gas hydrates has won funding of $7.6 million from MBIE’s 2017 Endeavour Fund.

The project will investigate the role they could play in New Zealand’s future energy demand, and how they could be produced in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible way. PEPANZ was proud to back the application with a letter in support.

Meet PEPANZ's new communications manager

Welcome to Phil Rennie who has joined the PEPANZ team as the new Communications Manager.

Phil's role is to help engage with and tell the story of the industry to stakeholders, the public and media. His immediate priorities are building up our social media presence and helping PEPANZ be an authoritative, proactive public voice.

Before joining PEPANZ Phil worked as a Press Secretary to a Government Minister for eight years. He is a keen cook, bike rider and Dad to Keira.
