READY TO HEAT PROTEINS & SIDESFreshly Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nestle USA, has launched Proteins & Sides, a range of ready to heat dishes. They are designed to offer variety and convenience for quick cooking options. The five protein options include Baked Turkey Meatballs, Baked Beef Meatballs, Flat Iron Steaks, Grilled Chicken Breasts and Grilled Chicken Strips. The three sides include Masterful Mash (a 50/50 cauliflower and potato mash), Masterful Mac & Cheese (made with gluten free rice and squash) and Cauliflower Rice. 2. LOADED FLATBREAD TACOSTaco Bell U.S. has added two Flatbread Tacos to their menus nationwide. The Loaded Chicken features a flatbread shell topped with marinated chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado ranch sauce, and cheddar cheese while the Beefy Potato includes seasoned beef, crispy potatoes, and nacho cheese sauce. Meanwhile, the chain has warned customers that some of their favourite items might not be available due to ingredient shortages and delivery delays. Global supply chain disruptions have rippled across various industries due to labour shortages and low inventory on certain key ingredients. 3. BACON-LIKE SAUSAGE STRIPSJohnsonville's Sausage Strips bring the best of bacon and sausages together by reforming sausage into bacon-like strips. Flavours include Original, Spicy, Smoked Chorizo and Maple Flavoured and offer 30% less sodium per serving and 40% less fat than their bacon counterparts. The sausage strips launched in the Midwestern United States but are now available at many major retailers throughout the country. 4. TRIALLING TAZIKI'S LAMB BURGERTaziki’s Mediterranean Cafe, in collaboration with the American Lamb Board, is launching the new Taziki’s Lamb Burger for a limited time in select test locations. Taziki’s Lamb Burger features two patties of seasoned ground lamb topped with grilled peppers, onions, feta cheese and Taziki sauce on a grilled Kaiser bun. Consumers who sample the Lamb Burger in the test markets of Nashville, Panama City, Birmingham, and Little Rock will determine a nationwide launch in 2022. 5. SUSTAINABILITY PURCHASE FACTORThere has been notable growth in the number of consumers making food and drink choices based on sustainability, with a marked increase of over 25% in the past two years. Price and quality are still at the forefront of consumer’s minds, but they now see value in paying more for more sustainable products. Over 2/3 say they are happy to pay more for eco-friendly items and the key drivers for taking positive action are concern for the environment (52%) and believing it is the right thing to do (46%). 6. CHIPOTLE PREDICTS INFLATIONChipotle predicts that higher beef and freight costs could offset the benefit of menu price hikes in the short term. Quick serve restaurants are being challenged by several industry-wide issues such as labour issues and supply chain product shortages. The company has not noticed any resistance to higher menu prices so far and business continues to grow as restrictions ease and people return to offices. 7. CALLING ALL GAMERSPizza Hut Delivery UK has a new gaming division called Pizza Hut Gaming. Its plan is to host tournaments across a variety of titles, deliver influencer activations, and become the ‘go-to pizza' for gaming communities across the UK. The launch will kick off with a dedicated channel on Twitter and Pizza Hut Gaming will offer free pizza for every 100 new followers gained. 8. PAPA MURPHY'S REBRANDSPapa Murphy’s is introducing a new store design, the first since 2014. The brand wants to modernise itself and show its relevance by looking at store design, how it engages with consumers both in person and digitally, and how to reward loyal customers through its loyalty programme. Along with a new logo, Papa Murphy’s wants to provide a more welcoming, fun environment for guests to enjoy. 9. MCDONALD'S NOSTALGIC RANGEMcDonald’s Hong Kong has launched a new meal based on the childhood favourite, Doraemon cartoon series. The meal includes Ebi Burgers, McShaker Fries, and a Taro McFlurry creating nostalgia for fans. The burger comes with fresh pineapple and the Fried Onion Shrimp Bao is a treat for the senses with crispy fried onions and shrimp cakes. The McShaker Fries are sprinkled with Sakura Ebi flavoured seasoning, offering a unique Japanese flavour, with other options including Lobster Bisque, Japanese-Style and American BBQ Honey seasonings.
