Check us out soon at www.starick.org.au. ![]() October Garage Sale TrailGarage Sale Trail is one BIG WEEKEND of garage sales that's happening right across Australia on October 20 and 21. It happens with the support of over 146 local council partners and more than 400,000 bargain hunting, re-use loving Australians, who this year will shop and sell at more than 15,000 garage sales Australia-wide. Starick will be hosting its very own garage sale trail event - drop in to our Love Street, Cloverdale shop from 9am to 3pm on Saturday 20 October for bargains galore! ![]() New life for transitional homeScentre Group recently undertook a major refurbishment project at one of our transitional homes. Scentre Group staff, volunteers and sub-contractors completely transformed the house, which is used by families after they leave the refuge. Starick Chair Wendy Wiley (pictured with Noah Chung, Jon Stone and Phil Davies from Scentre Group) was there to cut the ribbon and thank the team for all their hard work. It's hard enough for a child to be uprooted from their home because of family and domestic violence, without having to also start at a new school. But of course that's exactly what happens to many of the children living at our refuges. To ease the financial burden of finding money for a new uniform and school supplies, our supporters at the Rotary Club of Southern Districts recently donated $750 for exactly this purpose. A big thank you goes out from all the children who benefitted from the Club's generosity. ![]() ![]() Making bedtimes better![]() We have so many - frankly - amazing supporters who donate, assist and partner with us in our important work and we try, over the course of each year, to highlight some of this wonderful support. In this issue we'd like to shine a spotlight on two. The Lions Club of Gosnells provides our Starick refuge in Gosnells with an annual donation so we can buy bedding, pyjamas and other items for the children and mums in our service. Club members also attend our fundraisers, donate to the op shop and generally let us know that they support our work. Here at Starick, we do like a nice snuggly blanket. Our friends at Roleystone Neighbourhood Family Centre have crocheted some beautiful blankets for our families (as shown) and incorporate a heart shape pattern into each and every one. If you're an organisation supporting Starick and would like us to feature you in the newsletter, please email us. A very special message15 year old Alicia and her mum recently spent time at our Starick House refuge. We wanted to share with you excerpts from Alicia's beautiful hand-drawn thank you note (reproduced with permission). Alicia and her mum have since moved on from the refuge. "The first time I heard that we were going to the refuge I felt scared...but when I came here, people and everyone was so lovely and friendly. Inside the refuge I felt a beautiful energy that I had never felt in my life. I'm so grateful that I came here...the people helped us a lot. I would love to see everyone again." ![]() |
