Dr Monica Kerr EventsWorking with your Supervisor - Faculty of the ProfessionsThe relationship you have with your supervisor is crucial in determining your PhD experience. They are your primary source of guidance as you undertake an individual research project and even the best student/supervisor relationships can experience periods of strain through the ups and downs of research. This activity counts for 2 credits in Domain D. Creating Impact through Research Industry PartnershipsThis program through CSIRO ON empowers researchers to confidently engage with industry. Through the half-day interactive workshop, participants will learn how to: identify and engage with organisations interested in collaborating and supporting your research; increase the chance of having real impact by focusing on solving problems external organisations care about; and develop their own funding independence, research autonomy and sustainable career pathway. 18 June 2019, 9am - 12pm, West End Precinct. Turbocharge your WritingWould you like to know the secret to high output, low stress scholarly writing? Then join us for this workshop presented by Hugh Kearns from ThinkWell to learn how to increase your writing output. This session, presented by Hugh Kearns of ThinkWell, will explain why high performing people often doubt their abilities and find it hard to enjoy their successes. Ethics and Integrity Course for HDR/RHD StudentsThe University of Adelaide Office of Research Ethics, Compliance, and Integrity is hosting this year’s Ethics and Integrity Course for HDR/RHD Students. The workshop will include: an introduction to research integrity and the responsible conduct of research; an overview of the ethical issues that may arise in research involving humans; tools to analyse and address these issues. Do you feel you need some assistance in selling your skills to employers? Register here. This activity counts for 3 credits in Domain B. NewsThree Minute Thesis Competition There's still time to register for the 2019 Three Minute Thesis Competition. The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a great way to develop your communication skills and profile your research. It's a competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) Program and Scholarship IEP scholarships are now available to support eligible domestic and international students who undertake an industry placement. The University of Adelaide’s Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) program involves participation in an industry placement of 1-3 months (FTE) in duration, together with the completion of a number of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and other professional development activities. Industry programs and placements offer PhD students exceptional opportunities to apply and further develop professional skills in their specific field. By engaging with industry, students can turn theory into practice while building, fostering, and enhancing professional contacts and networks. Completing an industry placement will also help develop expertise, and provide a head start for future employment opportunities. Completion of the IEP (including the compulsory CaRST activities, which provide credit) will be recognised on academic transcripts. Additional information, including the application process, is available on the IEP website.
