Healthcare professionals have been invited to apply for NICE’s diabetes guideline update committees. The organisation is looking for experts to support the process of updating a series of diabetes guidelines, with the deadline for applications being Tuesday, August 27, at 5pm. Children who are obese and have type 2 diabetes have “low self-esteem” and are prone to “stress and depression”, according to a leading paediatrician. In response, Professor Timothy Barrett, Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Birmingham, has helped develop a series of recommendations in a bid to reduce type 2 diabetes rates among young people. A strategic council has been set up to give advice on how to improve the prevention and treatment of obesity. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Obesity recently held its inaugural meeting and decided to form a council, made up of leading academics, clinicians, policy-makers and patient representatives.
