Welcome to the silly season!

Some thoughts to stay ahead this festive season

Dear Everyone,

The silly season has certainly kicked off for most people, with Christmas parties and weekend catch ups in full swing in the lead up to Christmas.  Most of this eNews is from one I sent 3 years ago, however the content is so relevant I went and dug it up to send out again!

The next few weeks can be a huge amount of fun, catching up with family and friends, however, if you aren't careful then all of your hard work will be undone . With some planning ahead though this doesn't have to be the case!

Don't become a statistic

According to Nutrition Australia the AVERAGE weight gain over the Christmas period is 0.8 - 1.5kg - the news gets even more depressing, most of this weight gained is very hard to lose and is rarely lost in the following year.

A one off indulgence over Christmas won't result in you gaining weight, however continually having "just one more" at each event or turning a catch up with friends into a special event of indulgence will result in the Christmas kilos coming!

Have a plan this Christmas

Don't write off the Christmas period this year, make sure you get out and stay active.  It doesn't have to be your regular routine, but do something!!

We have casual classes you can attend, pick up an extra training session - or get out and walk or swim a couple of mornings a week this December!

A Christmas lunch or dinner can have as many as 3500 calories.  Consider this - a 75kg person needs to row for an hour at a moderate intensity to burn 500 calories - more than 7 hours of exercise just to break even on 1 lunch or dinner!

Don't let Christmas run into January!

You should be back to a more regular eating and exercise routine by the 2nd of January - partying through January can be a real trap.  Before you know it February will be here and then you're trying to get in shape.

Easter will sneak up on you, and the start of 2015 is spent getting yourself back to square one instead of improving your health and fitness.

Make sure you have an amazing festive season in 2015, with some planning and direction you will start 2016 minus that unwanted baggage!
