Sid Shares #9SidShares Hi All! Here is my ninth monthly dose of “Sid Shares.” A list of what I’m enjoying and exploring. February saw our family grow again! Our newest member is the wonderful Florence Joy (aka Flo-Jo), born on the 7th February weighing a healthy 8lbs 15ozs. From the moment she popped out she was busy looking around and is such a content bundle of joy. She sleeps loads, seldomly cries and loves her time with Lily, Freddie, Beatrice and Bilbo. And because of Florence March is about ‘Looking’. We often rush around being busy and often overlook what’s around us. We tend to skip over what’s there, so from now on my aim is to really ‘look’ around and enjoy what I see. I read a great book a few years ago called ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ written by Mitch Albom. It’s a great book about a series of visits Albom made to his former sociology professor Morrie Schwartz, as Schwartz gradually dies of ALS. It’s a beautiful book and do take time to give it a read. I recently finished another of his latest books ‘Finding Chika: A Little Girl, an Earthquake, and the Making of a Family’, which is a truly inspiring story. It’s about a young girl called Chika who was orphaned after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. I won’t give the whole story away but have a watch of When Mitch Albom found Chika. Oh boy, what a story. There’s one particular incident that reminded Mitch of his Tuesdays with Morrie. Chika would often go to the back window in their house and sit on the floor, just studying the outside world. She would sit for a long time in silent rapture as she surveyed everything in minute detail – the grass, birds, sky, and trees swaying in the wind. Similarly, Morrie, Mitch’s ailing professor, had pointed to a window in the room in which he spent the end of his life. He told Mitch that he appreciated gazing out of that window more than Mitch ever could, because that was his only view of the world, which had closed around him in his sickness. To Mitch, it was just a pane of glass. To Morrie, to Chika, those windows opened onto wonder. As Chika intruded more and more onto his old routine, and life slowed down, Mitch reflected that the most precious thing you can give is your time. When you give it without thinking – as he did with Chika – you give it with love. Chika reminded them to look carefully at the world around them, and to cherish every moment they had together. Spring is definitely on its way and it’s lovely to hear the birds singing in the morning, and seeing the daffodils, snowdrops and crocus. Next time you’re out and about take a good look around you and be amazed at what you see. And on the lines of looking have a watch of this ‘Adam and the juice camera. Celebrate what’s right with the world’ by Dewitt Jones. It’s a cracker! If you like poetry then take a look at this wonderful poem by Mary Rita Schilke Sill called When you thought I wasn't looking.
