December 2019

Hi ,

Welcome to our last edition of Coordinator Connect for 2019!

A note from Chris Gibbs, MHPN CEO

On behalf of all of us at MHPN, we sincerely thank you for your commitment to leading and supporting the networks. Coordinators are integral to MHPN’s ability to make an impact on promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative mental health care practices in Australia and your valuable contribution is vital to networks’ sustainability and MHPN’s ongoing success.

Have a safe and happy holiday break.

Warm wishes,
Chris

The year that was
We've put together a snapshot of highlights from the practitioner network meetings during the year. They show the diversity and unique flavour of meetings coordinators have created.

Eating disorders treatment boost
In 2019, Medicare launched extra subsidised treatment sessions for consumers living with an eating order. Read the full article.

MHPN animal-assisted therapy meeting in Victoria
Roxy the  therapy dog and co-presenter Naomi Adams, psychologist and animal-assisted therapist, 'spoke' to the Victorian Geelong Depression and Anxiety Special Interest Network in November. Their presentation covered the fundamentals of animal-assisted therapy. Contact me if you're interested in hosting an animal-assisted meeting.

Victorian coordinator presented in Queensland
While on a personal trip to sunny Queensland,  Victorian network coordinator Dr Renée Miller spoke to a joint meeting of Brisbane networks about perinatal and infant mental health. We think that's going above and beyond!

More highlights include Bunbury Panel discussion, Networks focus on self-care and Hobart MHPN discuss Trauma and the Law.

Thank you for a great year of meetings!

This year, mental health practitioners started 23 new local networks nationally thus expanding the hard work and impact of our 450+ volunteer coordinators.

I'd like to personally thank you for giving up your time to organise and run meetings - which we know from the positive feedback - are helping mental health and allied practitioners everyday.

I look forward to working with you next year - we couldn't improve the working lives of practitioners without you.

I wish you a happy and restorative break over the festive season.

Warm wishes,
Trish Clarke
