Registrar-General
Tēnā koe – hello.
I am suspending the issuing of marriage and civil union licences while all of New Zealand is at Alert Level 4.
Couples can still give notice of their intended marriage but licences will only be issued if there are exceptional circumstances (such as deathbed weddings).
Marriage licences that have already been issued remain valid but cannot be used during Alert Level 4, unless all parties including the witnesses and celebrant are in the same
bubble (very unlikely).
We will notify you of any changes to the issue of marriage licences through this newsletter.
