Presence

As I sit here, the beating of my heart,
the ebb and flow of my breathing, the movements of my mind
are all signs of God's ongoing creation of me.
I pause for a moment, and become aware
of this presence of God within me.

TERM 4 WEEK 1   16 OCTOBER, 2019
OUR LADY OF GRACE NEWSLETTER

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and care givers

Welcome back to Term Four it has been a delightful start with students and parents returning full of energy for the next ten weeks of learning. We have started with a full week of Chess competitions, sporting carnivals, swimming lessons and dancing! Congratulations to Kobi McCormack, Jacob Dimond, Hayden Headling, Oliver Stupple, Jacob Corkill, Ben Simpson, Samuel Bernacki and Giddon Bogoyev for representing our school at the Interschool Chess Competition. These students competed in a higher grade level this year against 10 other schools. Congratulations to Giddon Bogoyev for achieving the Encouragement Award trophy. For those students interested Chess Club meets Tuesday lunchtime in the The Hive, all students are welcome.

I look forward to the Athletics Carnival this Friday and thank Mr Brown for his organization of the carnivals, for all staff and parent helpers who are a great support on both days.

The Calendar is a busy one but we begin this term with a significant Sacrament in the lives of our Year 6 students. This weekend the students in Year 6 will be Confirmed, sealing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit they received at Baptism. Father Richard visited the children this week to talk with them and ascertain their preparedness to receive the Sacrament. The Sacrament of Confirmation is rich in symbolism and ritual and is a unique time for all of us to renew and deepen our faith. This is a significant time for not only our Year 6 children but their families, please keep these children and their families in your prayers.

You should have received several letters, both in hard copy and on flexibuzz regarding important information for our school. Please read and consider the information provided in this communication regarding;

·         The IT Portal is now open for students currently in Years 3,4 & 5 for purchase of devices for 2020

·         The OLG Wellbeing Strategy & World Café Event for the 30th October for all parents

·         Calling for nominations for the P&F and School Board from all parents.

The P&F and School Board are parent representative bodies that are vital to the success of our school. You are welcome to attend the Parents & Friends meeting next Monday 7.30, come and see the great work done on behalf of all parents of OLG impacting all students at OLG.

Some of the work of the School Board has been evident over the holidays with the complete renovation of the toilets for students in Year 1 – 4. The financial management provided by the Board has meant that we were able to respond to the needs of students who informed us they did not feel safe in this area. I would like to acknowledge our builders Ballpoint Construction who kept to a very strict timeline to ensure the toilets were ready for students on Monday. Further in the newsletter is a request to parents to help address student behavior and vandalism in the new & MPA toilets, your assistance is appreciated.

Thank you to those families who have completed the payment of school fees or are on a payment plan. If you have not completed payment of fees and you are not on a payment plan please speak with our Finance Officer Mrs Kate Corkill to arrange an appropriate payment plan for you.

God bless

Gabrielle  Doyle

Toilets
Unfortunately a considerable amount of staff time is spent/wasted responding to misbehavior in our toilets. Staff are working hard to ensure that students do not use the toilets as a play and at times eating area! We have consistently been required to removing full toilet rolls & food from toilets, clean floors of wasted toilet paper and mop up flooded floors from taps being left on. The skill-set of our students to use a toilet appropriately and follow basic hygiene routines of wiping, flushing, washing and drying is surprisingly lacking. I had presumed there was a lack of care due to aged and non-functioning toilets. That is no longer the case and yet over this week we have experienced vandalism of the toilets that has been disappointing and costly to repair. I ask your co-operation in ensuring your child knows the function of and how to appropriately use the toilets at school. To address this behavior Year 5 & 6 students are being asked to use the MPA toilets only and Year 1 – 4 are being asked to use the newly renovated toilets. Our mantra has been behave in the toilets here as you would behave in your toilet at home. I would hazard a guess that children do not behave like this at home!

Rhyme Time and It’s All About Play (0 - 4 years)
Next session: Friday 25th October
Location : Pre- Kindy Room
Time: 9.15am

We had a fabulous introduction to Rhyme Time followed by It’s All About Play in our new venue the Pre K room. There was lots of rhyme and movement followed by lots of play with mums and Grans enjoying reading, the home corner, play dough and the outside play area. The sandpit was a hit as were the blocks and shaker making.

Due to Grandparents' Day and the Confirmation Retreat there will be no Rhyme Time or It's all about Play for the remainder of this term.
We look forward to our next session on Friday 25th October. Hope to see you you there.
