The piece, whose ten movements portray iconic figures from the Commedia dell'arte (an improvisational form of theatre born in the streets of Italy in the 16th century) is based on caricatures and features of protagonists that are found in all societies: vivid, funny, touching, ridiculous, exuberant, malicious, and sarcastic. The audience will be guided through the work with background information and examples led by the composer, as well as mediator Emmanuelle Lizère. This series aims to allow the listener to immerse themselves in a work in diverse ways, offering different means of engaging with and listening to the composition. The piece is played once straight through, after which point we will invite you to join in a mediated discussion exploring the many ways one might engage with this music. A second, “informed,” performance follows, allowing an opportunity to listen to the piece once more with a new perspective. 10 $ (+fees) in advance, 15 $ at the door |
