Click here TERM 1 WEEK 3 FEBRUARY 20, 2019 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents & Guardians Thank you to the many parents who were able to join us last week at our Parent Information Sessions. At this gathering I outlined the five pillars of our work at Our Lady of Grace; Christ, Children, Community, Communication and Connections. It was terrific to see our staff so supported by parents and the feedback on the ‘vibe’ in the school was positive. I could have added another ‘C’ to the slides on the Parent Information Session - ‘Chain breaker’. Sometimes parents and children are disturbed or upset by information that they have ‘heard’ about a decision, process, a family or a child in our school. More often than not this is incorrect, hearsay, or downright gossip. Gossip causes damage and upset to both staff, families and children. The official channel of school communication is through the school office and can be found in the Newsletter, Flexibuzz and letters home from the Principal. If you are unsure about something that impacts you or your child you are very welcome to visit the office for clarification. I invite all of the members of our community to be ‘chain breakers’ so that when someone offers a snippet of information in the guise of advice or knowledge you break the chain by gently yet firmly changing the subject and declining to be part of the gossip chain. In a dynamic community such as ours, there may be times when you are concerned about your child. The starting point for any issues you may have is always your child’s teacher, they have the strongest relationship with your child. If after meeting with the teacher your concerns remain unresolved then an appointment can be made with one of the Assistant Principals, Mrs Wandek or Mrs Hardwicke. If the issue remains unresolved then an appointment should be made with myself. It has been a privilege to meet with many parents and teachers to discuss individual children. It takes a village to raise a child and we all have a part to play in each child's success in our school. Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly. Introducing Our Lady of Grace School 2019 - LEADERSHIP TEAM One of the major roles of the Leadership Team is to ensure that students, parents and staff have a safe environment in which to work. The CEWA Child Safe Framework and The CEWA Code of Conduct are two documents that provide us with a very clear structure for our work based on healthy relationships and respect. Our role is to ensure that all in our community are able to empower all children through faith, knowledge and wisdom to live fulfilling lives in this ever changing world. We look forward to partnering with all parents on this journey. Newman College Parent Information Sessions 9 Ways to a Resilient Child (a FREE event for Early Childhood parents / guardians only) – Monday 25 March, 9.00am in the Marist Auditorium (216 Empire Avenue, Churchlands) Parents will learn the psychological secrets that build their child's sense of identity, strengths and growth mindset in order to perform better, be happier and build resilience. 9 Ways to a Resilient Child is based on Dr Justin Coulson's best-selling book, which shows parents how to help their children cope powerfully and positively with the challenges that life throws at them. This presentation is one of Justin's most popular presentations with powerful stories and illustrations that every parent can relate to. He explains the factors that help and hinder resilience, why common advice such as "toughen up Princess" just doesn't work, and how competition and praise may undermine resilience. Respectful Relationships; Love at Home (a FREE event for all parents / guardians) - Monday 25 March, 7.00pm in the Marist Auditorium (216 Empire Avenue, Churchlands) How to get along with your kids and help them get along with you (and their siblings). We all try to get along at home... but there are those uncomfortable niggles. There's the eye-rolling, the disrespect, the lack of motivation to help out, and the sibling warfare. If we're honest, most adults have been known to shout a bit too, and let's face it, we don't always listen that well to our kids. Conflict and friction at home cause more trouble than we need, and interfere with everyone's wellbeing. Wouldn't it be great if there were some simple, practical things we could do to help everyone get along better - starting right now? In this session, you'll learn the best 'relationship rules' for a happier family so home life really does feel loving... most of the time! The presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer session. Parents are to RSVP to me for both sessions: jo.dunn@cewa.edu.au These sessions are for parents only. We hope that parents will use the information they learn to better educate themselves. Lake Karrinyup Country Club Subjunior Program - golf lessons and play for children aged 7 -14 years - all abilities welcome.
