South Brisbane to Welcome Australia's first 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre

BSB member Mater Foundation is working to improve healthcare for all expectant mothers by raising funds to build Australia’s first 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre. The centre will be available to any woman that needs help, from day one of their pregnancy to six weeks after their baby is born.

Mater is holding the Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk, which will transform the South Bank Cultural Forecourt on Sunday 5 June with smiles and giggles, fun and colour as thousands of families walk together to raise the much needed funds to build the centre.

Members of Business South Bank and their families are invited to register in the next week* with a special $5 discount code: SB5OFF.

The event is much more than just a walk – it’s a day jam packed full of family friendly entertainment including Pepper Pig, Paw Patrol, Queen Elsa, Ella Ferdinands, circus performers, face painting, baby animals, giant games, fairy floss, and more!

Click here to register your family!

*Register before Thursday 26 May, 12 midnight, to redeem this discount.

South Bank's 'Rain Bank' plugs water wastage by a massive 300 million litres

While Brisbane and much of Queensland continues to experience unseasonally high temperatures and low rainfall; maintaining the state’s largest sub-tropical urban oasis has been seamless due to ground breaking water harvesting technology implemented at South Bank’s ‘Rain Bank’ almost five years ago.

Rain Bank is an underground water storage and treatment facility that has stopped around 300 million litres of stormwater from ‘going down the drain’ by capturing, treating and storing it to keep the South Bank Parklands in top condition.

Rain Bank intercepts stormwater from a 30-hectare radius and when it was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2011, it was Australia’s first large-scale stormwater harvesting initiative to be retrofitted in a fully developed mixed-use catchment area.

South Bank Corporation’s CEO, Jeff Weigh said: “Rain Bank allows the Parklands to be almost fully sufficient, providing up to 85 per cent of the Parklands’ irrigation and non-potable water needs…it’s a great example of how every level of government worked together to bring tangible socio, economic and environmental benefits to an urban precinct while also contributing to a healthier, cleaner waterways.”

BSB members learned how to 'Mind' their Business

A big thank you to Melissa Armstrong from GoldMind Performance and John Barton from MGD Wealth, for their thought provoking presentations on using brain science methodologies in the workplace to improve business outcomes and staff satisfaction.

Key takeaways from the sessions were:

  • In the workplace, what you say and do matters - not only does it impact staff performance, but it also impacts bottom line productivity. It's always best to consider your verbal and non-verbal body language carefully before speaking and acting.
  • The brain experiences social pain the same way it does physical pain - be mindful of how you treat others and what they might be feeling.
  • Be in the habit of recalling your long-term goals when making short-term decisions - even the small ones.
  • Understand that rare events happen all the time. Plan for the unexpected - investments, savings, insurance.
