Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences
Graduate AI Innovation & Networking Series

GAINS is a Dietrich School initiative that explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping graduate education, teaching, and research. We spotlight innovative practices, projects, and essential resources to promote informed and responsible use of AI in the university setting. By sparking cross-disciplinary dialogue around one of the most compelling topics, GAINS creates a platform for discussion, discovery, and new connections within the Pitt community.

Meet the New Summer GAINS Interns

The GAINS initiative at the University of Pittsburgh is a collaborative space where graduate students explore how AI can enhance education, research, and the world. Summer of 2025, we’re excited to welcome a group of brilliant, creative, and deeply thoughtful interns whose work spans chemistry, ethnomusicology, political science, and film studies. Though their disciplines differ, they are united by a common curiosity: how can we use AI to better understand ourselves, our societies, and the complex systems we study?

Ali Hassan - PhD Student in Ethnomusicology

Isil Idrisoglu - PhD Candidate in Political Science

Mikhail Itkin - PhD Student in Slavic and Film Studies

Kaveen Tennakoon - PhD Student in Chemistry
