Father Richard has been involved with Our Lady of Grace Parish since 1997 as a parishioner, after five years he was ordained as a Deacon and was ordained a Catholic Priest in 2003. Father Richard became fully responsible for the Parish from 2007. It is clear that Father Richard has had a significant impact on our school as OLG Parish Priest and we will take the opportunity to show him our appreciation and thanks toward the end of October. I would like to congratulate our Year 6 students who gave their commitment to the Sacrament of Confirmation program at Our Lady of Grace Parish last weekend. The Sacrament of Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation into the Parish that seals or confirms the Gifts of the Holy Spirit given at Baptism. This is a very important time for our children to be able to learn about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that are strong within them and those that they are yet to develop. As educators, we partner with parents, who are the first educators in the faith, and with the Parish in this program. I was very proud of the reverence demonstrated by our students as they stood in front of their parish and declared their commitment to being Confirmed. Details about the enrolment process follows in today's newsletter. Last Friday evening the Our Lady of Grace Netball Club, celebrated a windup for all players. In listening to the reasons why players were awarded Coaches’ Awards and Fairest and Best Awards I was struck by the way these players live their faith. The respect demonstrated to others, sportsmanship during games, fairness, maturity when decisions were not favourable and consistent striving for improvement were all reasons for being awarded trophies. Congratulations to players and award winners. Team 1 have been successful in going forward to play in the grandfinal on Saturday week and I look forward to seeing them in this game. Clubs do not run without volunteers and people willing to take on community responsibility. I am grateful to the many volunteers who have assisted the teams and the committee for their work in ensuring the club runs smoothly. The AGM is being held this Friday 1pm for those interested in attending. Congratulations to all four of our Tournament of Mind Teams who will be competing in the State Finals this Sunday 15 September. The teams were drawn from a tremendous group of students who made up the TOM Squad. During this week they have been busy in ‘lock down’ for planning and training in collaborative problem solving. I wish students all the best for this event and thank both their teachers and families for the support they have had on the way. Who doesn’t need collaborative problem solving skills in this day and age? How wonderful to be led in this by our students. Two big events occur this week with our first Cybersafety Workshop on Thursday evening 7 – 8.30pm in the MPA. This workshop is for parents of children of all ages and is part of our ongoing education about the strengths and challenges of an online world. The workshop is repeated next Tuesday at the same time and is part of our ICT Strategy released earlier this term. Part of the ICT Strategy was a commitment to answering Frequently asked Questions raised at the ICT launch. See below for today's FAQ's. Grandparent’s Day is being held this Friday and there are a few changes to the traditional program. The changes are designed to provide a more varied program and one that allows our Parish Grandparents to join in. Please join all students in the Multi Purpose Area for a Liturgy being seated by 8.30 am, this will be followed by a performance by the School Choirs and the Year 5 Dance Troupe, collection by your eldest Grandchild for class tours and then finishing with a lovely morning tea provided by our Parents and Friends Association. Due to large numbers of Grandparents expected we are only able to fit children and Grandparents into the MPA. Unless you are required to provide mobility assistance or care for your child’s Grandparent I would ask that Grandparents only attend. You will be able to follow all the action on our social media sites, Instagram, @olg_northbeach, twitter @OurLadyofGrace3 and facebook page @OLGprimaryschool. Gabrielle M. Doyle
Frequently Asked Questions ICT Strategy What provision is there for children without iPads? The 6 months lead in time and ‘grandfather’ clause for current Year 5 students are two ways of ensuring that families have adequate time to purchase devices. However, there will be some families where this may cause financial stress, particularly if there are multiple children needing to purchase devices. We will ensure that any child who is unable to purchase a device will have full access to a class device. I would ask that any family who will find themselves in the situation of not being able to purchase a device for Year 4, 5 or 6 in 2020 discuss the matter with me confidentially. Have you aligned to Sacred Heart Strategy? No and this is not a consideration for the strategy as the pedagogy and use of the device is appropriate to primary schooling. The devices purchased in Year 4 will have been used for three years prior to entering a high school. Our Lady of Grace has used the latest research and system wide experience to develop our strategy. We have used system and international experts to assist us with developing our strategy. Our ICT strategy is part of our Vision for Learning and is designed on best practice for primary aged students in the use of technology. We are required to teach the West Australian Curriculum Digital Technologies Curriculum for the primary year levels. The only crossover with high school curriculum is the ICT Digital Technology General Capability which is required of all students in Australia. Our selection of device is based on the needs of our students with the desired outcome of students being able to work on various platforms (Google and Microsoft) rather than aligning with one platform or an individual high school’s expectation. Flexibuzz - Tick Canteen Box SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME CONFIRMATION The Iconography above the Altar In the centre is the Christus, the Risen Christ the hope and centre of our Faith. The left hand panel is the Archangel Gabriel and the right hand panel is Our Blessed Mother Mary. The two panels allow us to contemplate the Annunciation when Mary said “yes” to God’s request to bear his Son Jesus for a waiting world. As a whole: we have Mary’s “yes” – the beginning of our Christian Faith – the Alpha and our completion - the Omega, as we enter into the unity and dignity of the Risen Christ.
