Click here Federal Minimum Wage Case The Fair Work Commission issued the federal minimum wage case decision on 30 May 2019, which provides for a wage increase of 3% per week for employees covered by federal modern awards including the Clerks – Private Sector Award 2010. The minimum federal adult wage rate is $740.80 per week. Click here. The effective date of the increase is the first pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2019. Who do the new wage rates apply to? The new federal minimum wage rates apply to employers and employees who are covered by federal modern awards. This means employers who are “constitutional trading corporations” being Pty Ltd companies and those family trusts with an Australian Company Number (ACN). Who do these new wage rates NOT apply to? These wage rates do not apply to employers or their clerical staff who remain covered by the state industrial relations system. For example, partnerships and/or sole traders. Payment of wages The Clerks – Private Sector Awards prescribes the payment of wages as being weekly or, if by agreement of the employees covered by the award at the enterprise, can be paid alternatively on a fortnightly or monthly basis. Employers may obtain a copy of the Clerks – Private Sector Award 2010 at www.fwc.gov.au by accessing the menu of awards and modern awards. Schedule B of the Award sets out the classification and duties under the new Award.
