Do you have an ambitious whole-of-SPHERE project? 

Maridulu Budyari Gumal (SPHERE) has allocated a total of $750K to motivate highly-ambitious, partnership-inclusive research. 

The following is encouraged: 

  • Data-driven research and clinical trials 
  • Involvement of multiple CAGs and strategic platforms 
  • Inclusion of collaborators from outside SPHERE 
  • Knowledge translation 
  • Involvement of Biostatisticians, Health Economists and Implementation Scientists 
  • Consideration of opportunities for further funding 
  • New models of care in the COVID era 

Your project must include: 

  • Consumer and Community Involvement 
  • Timeframes and milestones 

Send a 1-page initial concept to Stephanie Macmillan by midday Friday 10th of September 2021. Following review by the Cancer CAG, the one pager may be submitted to be discussed at Big Ideas Town Hall meeting on September 16. 

Please include the following in your 1-pager: 

  • Concept Title 
  • Concept Outline
  • Key Collaborators (see list above) 

Following the Town Hall meeting, Expressions of Interest will be called for. These will be peer-reviewed by an independent panel and, if successful, full funding applications will be requested for assessment.

 

2021 Eureka Prizes finalists announced

Presented annually by the Australian Museum, 16 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are awarded across four categories including research and innovation, leadership, science engagement and school science. Congratulations to all finalists including:

  • Prof Justin Gooding, Prof Maria Kavallaris AM, Dr Julio Ribeiro, Dr Aidan O'Mahony, Dr Robert Utama and Dr Lakmali Atapattu - ANSTO Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology

UNSW cell biologist awarded prestigious President's Medal

Professor Peter Gunning has been recognised by the Australia and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology for his research which potentially impacts a broad range of diseases including childhood and adult cancers.

PanKind 2021 Grant Round Open

PanKind’s grants aim to encourage new ideas, build the capacity of Australian pancreatic cancer research and find new, more effective treatments to improve outcomes for patients.
Grants available:

  • 2 x Innovation Grants - Early Detection and Early Detection with a focus on Rural and Regional areas. Funding available: $100K  for 1 year
    Deadline: 6 October 2021
     
  • Accelerator Grant: New Treatment. Funding available: $300k grant over 2 years, focused on accelerating treatments for pancreatic cancer to patients.
    EOI Deadline: 20 September 2021

UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Health - White Walker Cancer Research Scholarship

This full PhD scholarship offered to outstanding domestic candidates to conduct research in the field of Cancer. The scholarship comprises of:

  • a full stipend of $41,597 per year for a maximum of 4 years
  • a career development fund of $10,000 per year and a comprehensive Research Training and Career Development program
  • a 6-month integrated internship with an academic unit or industry partner
