This new subject will be taught intensively from 28 September - 2 October 2015.

Urban Informatics is the study of cities using digital data, information, knowledge and models to understand trends, complexities and inform the formulation and evaluation of sustainable urban futures.

This subject is quota-restricted. For information on the application process and due dates, refer to the EDSC Quota Subjects webpage.

The MSD Fabrication Workshop is hiring!

Applications due: Sunday 19 July

The MSD Fabrication Workshop (Fabworks) is a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary space for making with technology that aims to create a hands-on and inspiring environment encouraging experimentation with technology, materials and processes of making.

Fabworks operates a range of digital fabrication equipment (Laser cutter, CNC router, 3D Printers) where FabLab Technicians operate machinery and process fabrication jobs. The workshop also operates a range of primarily carpentry fabrication equipment where Machine Workshop Technicians can supervise and engage with students on their woodworking projects.

Fabworks is currently hiring FabLab Technicians and Machine Workshop Technicians.

Archiball 2015 - early bird tickets available now

Archiball is the most anticipated event of the year for the architecture student community. This year, Archiball will be hosted at Alumbra. Your ticket will include unlimited refreshments at the bar as well as a selection of canapés prepared by a celebrity chef.

Please note that Archiball 2015 is an independent event run by students, for students.

An early bird ticket price of $80 (plus fee) is available until 25 July.

Applications open for 2016 Endeavour Mobility Grants

Applications due: 1 July 2015

Students are invited to apply for Endeavour Mobility funding under the Study Overseas Short-term Mobility Programme (STMP) and/or the Asia Postgraduate Programme (Asia Postgrad). The programs provide grants for students to undertake study overseas that is for academic credit.

STMP
STMP provides grants of $2000 per student. Eligible locations for undergraduate study include global locations, but exclude Asia. Funding is projects that depart between 1 January 2016 – 31 January 2017.

Asia Postgrad
The Asia Postgrad program provides short-term grants of $2000 per student or semester grants of $5000 per student. Language support grants are provided at a rate of $1000 per student for a project that has a language study component.

Study may be undertaken in eligible destinations in Asia only. Funding is for short term projects that depart between 1 January 2016 – 31 January 2017 or long term projects that depart between 1 January 2016 – 31 August 2017.

Applications open for Summer School in Pune, India

Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) is organising the 19th ASEF Summer University on “Sustainable Urbanisation in Heritage Cities” from 9-21 August in Pune, India, and warmly invites B Envs and MSD students to apply.

This 2-week project offers a dynamic programme which fuses lectures, workshops and a hack-a-thon where participants jointly develop physical & digital prototypes, social impact models and business plans.

The organisers will grant a financial subsidy that covers transportation (flight, local transportation, visa fees, etc.) Accommodation and meals are also provided throughout the project period.

Robin Boyd Design Studio No. 10 - intensive July subject

The Walsh Street Design Studio 10, Housing Families in the City, is an intensive design studio, organised in conjunction with the City of Melbourne, focused on their recently purchased Munro Site adjacent to the Queen Victoria Market on the edge of the CBD.

Studio 10 Project:  Housing Families in the City

Students will be required to propose and develop sophisticated urban scale design solutions and innovative medium density family housing proposals for this important and complex northern edge of the CBD.

University of Melbourne students wishing to apply will need to submit an application for (outgoing) cross-institutional enrolment to the University of Melbourne. Industry Opportunity with Global NFP Campaign

YGAP (Y Generation Against Poverty) issoon to be launching its 2015 Polished Man Campaign at Ellis St Studio.

YGAP is looking to engage with talented students who can provide an urban activation for the launch event in Melbourne. This opportunity may also extend to our planned activations at Federation Square in Melbourne and, Martin Place in Sydney.

The Urban Activation Competition details the brief. The successful applicant will work in multi-stakeholder scenarios with industry professionals from creative industries and in the non-profit sector.

This is an opportunity to gain professional experience in a global Campaign that surrounds issues of poverty and violence against children.
