Phishing scams - don't take the bait!

We are aware there has been a phishing scam this week - the IT Status Blog has more information on the email.

Exams didn’t go quite to plan?

The Academic Skills team in CASTLE can help students who might need to resit exams this year, providing support and advice. Don’t face resits alone - complete this form to request a meeting to help prepare for any resits. Appointments are available as soon as the May exams are finished and will continue until July.

The Undergraduate Awards 2016 - deadline extended

Cited as the ultimate champion for high-potential undergraduates, The Undergraduate Awards is the world’s only pan-discipline academic awards programme that identifies leading creative thinkers through their undergraduate coursework. UA has 25 categories into which essays may be submitted. The deadline for The Undergraduate Awards 2016 has been extended until 14 June. See if you are eligible.

Peer Connections is recruiting student mentors

Are you friendly and approachable? Want to help new students settle into university life? The Peer Connections team is recruiting volunteer mentors for next academic year 2016-17, to start in September.

Participate in welcome and social events, run the Conversation Café for international students, and pass on your knowledge of the campuses and the city to new students - all while enhancing your CV with free training.

This is a flexible commitment around student life. Email Peer Connections for more information or visit the web page.

Do you know anyone who would like to join University Court?

Court, the University of Dundee's Governing Body, is seeking to appoint a new lay member. Please pass this information on to anyone who has not been a member of the University (staff or student) during the last four years.

Further information on the role, criteria and applications are available online. Interested individuals should submit an application to Dr Christine Milburn (courtadmin@dundee.ac.uk) by Monday 20 June 2016.

Leaving for the summer?

Moving this year? The Residences Re-Use Me Campaign allows you to donate unwanted items which can be given to new students arriving in September. Non-perishable, unopened food items are also =welcome for the local food bank.

To contribute, take your donation to the collection point in the Chaplaincy, open from 10am - 3pm every working day until Thursday 30 June 2016.

EU Referendum vote - don't forget to register!

Don't forget to register to vote in the EU referendum, especially if you are leaving Dundee this summer as you'll need to update your address. Register by Tuesday 7 June. Find out more about registering online.

Scottish Cancer Prevention Network Prize & Bursary News

Nominations are open for the 2016 Scottish Cancer Foundation Prize, which awards up to £10,000 to anyone whose work has had a significant impact on cancer in Scotland. Applicants can be nominated or self-nominated; they don't need to be a health professional, but must be living and working in Scotland at the time of the award. Find out more.

SPCN Co-Directors Profs Annie Anderson and Bob Steele recently presented a bursary to Sharandeep Singh, a 5th year medical student, to support his elective. Read the full story.

UoD IT shortlisted for Digital Innovation

The University has been shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Digital Innovation in Management and Administration’ category of the Times Higher Education Leadership & Management Awards 2016. The award is for the deployment of Box, which has also recently been awarded for the Most Innovative Use.

We were the first UK Higher Education Institute to launch Box and since then it has transformed the way we work by simplifying everyday collaboration, helping us achieve our institutional transformation goals.

This is a prestigious opportunity for the University and we are pleased that our IT team is being recognised. Find out more.

Students and staff welcome torch for Hand Hygiene Day

Students and staff in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences were delighted to take part in the Hand Hygiene Torch Relay last week to show their commitment to improving hand hygiene. As part of the World Health Organisation’s International Hand Hygiene Day on Thursday 5 May the Infection Prevention Society launched the relay at Edinburgh Castle, and the University team took it on a tour of Dundee before sending it on the next leg of its journey. The torch relay will finish at the national conference in Harrogate on 26 September.

The Student Ambassador programme is currently recruiting and your help is needed - as an ambassador, you will host other students and visitors on campus tours, open days and at other University events.

Students fundraising for a trip to refugee camps

Social work students are fundraising for a trip to the refugee camps in Calais and Dunkirk, as part of an investigation into the living conditions and mental health of those living in the camps.

Members from the Dundee Social Work Action Network (SWAN) need help to raise funds for the trip - afterwards, they will produce a report of their findings, which will be presented to both the Scottish and UK Governments as part of National Refugee Week.

MSc student seeks volunteers for project

Ellenor Millican, MSc Anatomy and Advanced Forensic Anthropology student, would like volunteers over 21 to take part in the data collection process of her project. If you can give up 15 minutes of your time to allow her to take a number of measurements, including the length and width of your hands and feet, please email Ellenor.

PhD student needs participants for foot pressure study

Raed Alzahrani, a PhD student in the School of Medicine, needs volunteers to take part in a single session lasting around 30 minutes at the Ninewells campus. If you have healthy feet, are aged 30+, and can spare 30 minutes, please email Raed
