FDA Recalls Sexual Enhancement Supplements
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled 20 supplements that are marketed as sexual enhancement products.
Lab analyses showed that these supplements contained undeclared ingredients which could cause harmful interactions with other drugs. These ingredients were not listed on product labels.
Most of the products contained sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Another contained an analogue of tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis, which is also used to treat ED.
Both sildenafil and tadalafil are unsafe for men who take drugs containing nitrates, as the combination can trigger a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
