Rutland County Virtual Forum: From Recovery to Renewal and Resilience

The Coronavirus pandemic has hit Vermonters and our communities hard. As the summer brings re-openings and a partial restart of the economy, coming together to discuss strategies that accelerate recovery and build ongoing resilience is vital. The Local Solutions and Community Action Team established by Governor Phil Scott invites you to join a virtual forum on Thursday, August 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to connect with others in Rutland County to share challenges and ideas for community recovery; connect with others working to respond, recover, and build long-term resilience; and meet with a "visiting team" of state, federal, business, and non-profit leaders who will share recovery strategies from across the state and ideas for resources and support. This forum will be facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development.

Discussion on Childcare Needs and Policies

The Child Development Division of the Department for Children and Families would like to meet with Vermont's employers to learn more about any childcare concerns that employers may anticipate going into the fall.

This listening session on August 20 from 2-3 p.m. will be helpful to the Child Development Division as they continue to develop policies to support the needs of families. They would also like to take the opportunity to open lines of communication with employers about how families can make use of the State's existing services to match with available childcare, how to learn more about child care subsidies, and other ways the state is working to support families during this challenging time.

Join the discussion on August 20 at 2 p.m. using Microsoft Teams or by phone by calling (802) 828-7667.

State of Vermont Announces Building Communities Grant Programs

The State of Vermont has announced available funding for the Building Communities Grants Program. Under the grant program, which is administered by the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services, regional economic development corporations are encouraged to apply for funding on behalf of local businesses and organizations.

Since 2016, REDC has written winning grants for nine regional businesses, who received a combined total of more than $185,000. This year, REDC is opening the process to its members prior to opening submissions from additional community organizations. As part of the program, REDC staff will work with businesses whose projects meet eligibility criteria to write and submit grants on behalf of the business or organization.

This is a competitive grant program intended to provide last gap funding for shovel-ready projects and does not support ongoing fundraising initiatives. Projects must demonstrate realistic job creation or job retention, and a 1:1 financial match is required. See the full program details for more information.

The Building Communities Grant Program also includes a recreational facilities component and human services and educational facilities component. Applicants, including municipalities, nonprofit agencies, and regional economic development organizations, are encouraged to apply for these opportunities to fund construction, infrastructure support, and needed projects.

If you are interested in learning more about the Building Communities Grant Program or working with REDC to apply, please contact Assistant Director Kim Rupe at kim@rutlandeconomy.com or (802) 770-7061.
