To help family medicine faculty continue to provide quality education to residents and students, while at the same time being attentive to patients and communities, STFM has aggregated resources identified by members and staff within the following topics: distance learning curriculum, faculty resources, telehealth, US and world trackers, and wellness. Free Access to Family Medicine Residency Curriculum Resource Through May 31, 2020The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors and STFM is offering free access to the Residency Curriculum Resource to all family medicine programs thru May 31. We are hopeful that faculty can use the resource, which includes curricula for more than 200 family medicine topics, to deliver virtual didactics. Each curriculum comprises peer-reviewed, case-based presentations, quizzes, and facilitators' guides. Pandemic Mandates Rescheduling of 2020 Annual ConferenceThe 2020 STFM Annual Spring Conference is now scheduled for August 24-28, 2020 at the Grand and Little America Hotels in Salt Lake City, Utah. If you do not plan to attend the August conference, request a full refund of your previously paid conference registration fees by following these steps. Refunds must be requested by July 31, 2020. If you plan to attend the August conference, you are all set. Staff will apply your previously paid registration fee to the August meeting. Academic Family Medicine Organizations Advocate for Public Health Policies Regarding COVID-19STFM was joined by four other associations in advocating for three specific policy changes to protect the health of individuals, families, and communities and slow the spread of COVID-19. Nominate a Resident for the Resident Teacher AwardThe Resident Teacher Award recognizes teaching contributions by residents. Each family medicine residency program can give this award annually to the resident who has best demonstrated interest in and commitment to family medicine education. In Memoriam – Kent J. Sheets, MDKent J. Sheets, PhD, longtime STFM member, recipient of the STFM Excellence in Education award, and professor and Director of Educational Development at the University of Michigan Medical School's Department of Family Medicine passed away on March 16. A loyal Hoosier, Dr Sheets graduated from Purdue University where he earned a BA and an MSEd degree in Instructional Research and Development and a PhD in Educational Systems Development from Michigan State University. He then spent his career studying and developing systems for the optimum education of physicians. Poetry and Prose Contest Winners Announced The STFM Ethics and Humanities Collaborative has announced the 2020 STFM Annual Poetry and Prose Contest winners. The theme of this year's contest was: The Footsteps of Family Medicine: Expressions of Journeys Past, Present and Future. Family Medicine Seeks Assistant Editor Family Medicine, the official journal of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, is seeking an assistant editor. This volunteer position will report to the editor of Family Medicine. Board Review Sessions: Clicker Use to Improve Knowledge Through GamificationThe family medicine program at the American University of Beirut uses the American Board of Family Practice In-training Examination as a standardized summative knowledge assessment for postgraduate years 2 and 3 residents. Using weekly 1-hour sessions integrated principles of gamification, the program improved ITE scores with a difference of +52 points between their and the US average score for PGY-2 year in 2017. AAFP Hosting Weekly Town Halls To support members and address COVID-19 questions, the AAFP will host a weekly Town Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7-8 PM CST.
