Simon says...

Kia ora koutou

We’re three weeks from the EER visit. Preparation is going very well and we are on track. Thank you to all Unitec whānau for the huge efforts now going in to ensure that our documentation is spot-on and our panel participants are as ready as they can be.

My main messages now to EER participants are:

  • Be proud of our achievements and tell our story
  • Explain how far we’ve come since the last EER
  • Tell the panel about the positive impacts and outcomes for learners of all our work

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou, great work folks – be proud of our achievements.

Simon Nash
Executive Director - Ako

The full EER visit timetable is available here and will be completely online due to NZQA’s requirements for COVID-19.

The EER Evaluators are:

  • Peter Sherwin - Lead Evaluator
  • Brenden Mischewski – Tertiary consultant and researcher
  • Rhonda Maindonald - Academic Operations Manager at Southern Institute of Technology
  • Glynnis Brook - Manager Human Services, Ara Institute of Canterbury
  • Jane Arlidge - Quality Advisor, International College of Auckland
  • Fleur Chauvel – Consultant, evaluator and researcher

A virtual mihi whakatau will be held in the wharenui for the panel on Tuesday 20 October. Staff are welcome to attend – details will be on the Nest home page calendar as soon as the timing is confirmed.

Here’s a full list of the Focus Area team members. You can see the scale of this and how many staff are directly involved! Thank you again to everyone for your efforts here.

Each Focus Area team has its own plans for preparation, and all teams will be going through ‘mock’ panel events over coming weeks.

Key documents that we are asking everyone to be familiar with include the Unitec Self-Assessment Summary and the ‘Milestones’ document that sets out all the work we’ve done since the last EER.

This is my FOURTEENTH and final monthly Academic Quality Action Plan Update!

We are at 81% completed, which actually means that pretty much all the work we wanted to do has been done. The remaining 20% is all actions that are intended to carry on into 2021, so that’s fine.

On Monday 5 October all the remaining EER documentation was sent to the EER panel. This includes PEPs, reviews from Heads of School and Priority Group Directors, and ‘Overview’ documents for each of the focus areas.

EER panel preparation continues with the focus area teams, ELT and Academic Board. Our Rūnanga, Fono and Unitec Board have all had very good preparation sessions.
