The countdown to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has begun. As a nation, Australia ‘punches above its weight’ on the global stage at every Olympic Games. So, in 2020, I encourage all Australian manufacturers to have an ‘Olympic year’—to help develop a world-leading, dynamic, export-focused advanced manufacturing sector.

With ambitious goals for 2020, AMGC is here to help Australian manufacturers deliver their own Olympic performance.

Better Together

Adelaide-based Fusetec is 3D printing human body parts—complete with realistic, anatomically accurate bone, skin and muscle—for use as teaching aids during surgical training. Fuestec’s revolutionary medical devices can be designed and manufactured to simulate specific pathology, such as, tumours, broken bones or defective heart valves, enabling student and surgeons to practise specific procedures.

Michael Grogan (AMGC) was recently invited to accompany the Victorian Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education, Gayle Tierney, on a post-secondary education and training delegation to Europe. The purpose of the tour was to examine best-practice post-secondary education and training systems, and to inform the development of similar approaches and policies in Victoria.

The Automotive Innovation Lab Access Grants program supports businesses to undertake a range of activities. These may include design, prototype and testing activities undertaken at specialised facilities and service organisations that enhance automotive product design and development process.

Industry News

Since China’s “National Sword” policy clamped down on recyclable imports in 2018, the world has been forced to pay more attention to where its waste winds up. Australia exported 619,000 tonnes of its waste to China in 2017, and the effective waste import ban has led to well-publicised complications in the local recycling industry. Other neighbours in the region have subsequently returned Australian waste, encouraging us to handle more smartly what we discard.
