BILL TRAYLOR FILM PREMIERE:
Chasing GhostsJeffrey Wolf’s film BILL TRAYLOR: CHASING GHOSTS opens today, Friday April 16, in select theatres and virtual cinemas. It is an inventive and illuminating documentary about the self-taught African-American artist.
"Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts – Official Trailer", by kinolorber (2021) Born into slavery in 1853 on a cotton plantation in rural Alabama, Traylor moved to Montgomery in the late 1920s for odd jobs in the thriving segregated black neighborhood. In his late 80s, he became homeless and started to draw and
paint the memories from plantation days and the scenes of a radically changing urban culture.
Poster for the film The film reveals Traylor’s striking drawings and paintings with dramatic tap dance, evocative period music and spoken word. Balanced with archival photographs and footage, insightful perspectives from Traylor family members capture the vivid life of one of America's most prolific and prominent artists.
