Notice from the Dental Council of NSW:

Update on COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)

The Dental Council of NSW (Council) is writing to all dental practitioners in NSW following the recent announcements by NSW Health regarding the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the Northern Beaches of Sydney.  While the majority of concern appears to focus on this area, the Greater Sydney region has also been placed on alert for new cases.

NSW Health is providing regular updates and practitioners are strongly encouraged to continue to access its website for the latest information.

At this time, there has been no change announced relating to dental practice restrictions and Level 1 restrictions continue to be in place.  As you will be aware, guidelines for the management of dental patients during COVID-19 are accessible via the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA) website.

It is important that we all continue to adhere to appropriate COVID-19 practices within our dental settings, including continued pre-screening processes for patients and visitors.  We all have a responsibility to ensure that the wellbeing of patients, visitors, practice staff and ourselves is maintained and continues to be prioritised.

The Council acknowledges the resilience of dental practitioners during this difficult year and, although we were all hoping for a different ending to the year, I am confident that the profession will continue to maintain its high standards and adherence to the COVID-19 protocols, as determined by our government and health experts.

Conjoint Associate Professor F. Shane Fryer OAM
