May 2020 News HEADLINESThe Impacts of COVID-19 for our members and their partnersThroughout April, the Alliance undertook extensive data gathering on how the global pandemic is affecting our members, their partners and the communities they work with in different countries. It shows that the threat of humanitarian tragedy of catastrophic proportions looms in the global south, where public health services and government financial support for individuals and businesses are not comparable to those in much wealthier societies. It also reveals that the loss of charitable funding has hit the sector hard and could have serious implications for the work of almost all our members and threatens the very future of some. ‘Joined-up’ thinking and cross sector collaboration can make Scotland leader in sustainable developmentLaunched at the start of May, our new report – Improving Policy Coherence in Scotland – aims to bring together civil society and Government to make Scotland a leader in its approach to sustainable development. It asks all of us – government officials, politicians and civil society – to think systematically and recommends using an open source online platform to enable a collaborative approach to policy development. The report’s main messages are timely, as the current COVID-19 crisis continues to make many of us re-think how we live and work, and crucially, reflect on what it means to live in an interdependent, interconnected world. CCPM Programme Co-Ordinator Maggie Ngwira writes how climate change is having a huge impact on Malawi, especially on its women and girls, but that they will also be the ones to find solutions. OPINIONCritical Resource for Ethical International PartnershipsDr Mia Perry, Co-Director of Sustainable Futures in Africa at the University of Glasgow, tells us about their new resource that challenges researchers and practitioners to reassess what partnership means.
