From the Director’s Desk
Welcome to February! This week we hit the halfway mark of the school year. As a former elementary teacher, I know this means that shortly we will be celebrating 100th Day! This year it will be a whole-school experience, so stay tuned for how you can play a role in celebrating this fun day!
On Monday of this past week, our MUN team, under the direction of Jeanette Smith, had our first Mini Model United Nations event. With an audience of judges and their parents, MS and Secondary participants researched and debated resolutions towards the Militarization, Monetization, and Colonization of Outer Space. Parents and staff
alike were impressed and fascinated with the depth of thought and ideas presented by these teams representing multiple countries from around the globe. Great job MUN Team and Mrs. Smith!
On Tuesday, we had an earthquake drill with special emphasis on thinking about what we need outside (coats, hats, etc.) and, on Wednesday, we had a real earthquake so we could practice again! Both times the students did very well and I was very pleased to see that all students (even the little ones) calmly grabbed their jackets and other cold gear and made their way outside. Please know that even when earthquakes are small, we still take preventative measures and use the opportunity to practice.
We took the opportunity this week to say thank you to the State Department of the United
States and the Office of Overseas Schools for their contribution to our school via grant funds. Mr. Kevin Covert, Chargé d’Affaires, US Embassy, accepted a letter of thank you from the school. Nearly annually, the school benefits from grant funds. In the past, such funds have financed technology tools and literacy programs to name a few. Last year’s grant funds allowed us to purchase a significant amount of science lab materials. Continuing to develop our secondary program is an important goal for our school, and a well-developed, thought-out science lab is a vital component. We also give our gratitude to Mr. Horton for the work he has done to plan and implement our science programs.
The snow and rain have been good for the city, and I am enjoying the beautiful blue
sky today. I hope that you have a fabulous weekend QSI Dushanbe community. See you on Monday!
