Brisbane's Free Food and Wine Festival Returns!

Brisbane’s premier free food and wine festival, Regional Flavours, returns to the picturesque South Bank Parklands on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July.

Experience the Sunshine State on a plate, featuring free demonstrations from celebrity chefs and industry experts, delicious food, beer and wine, live music, kid’s activities and more.

It’s also home to the renowned Regional Flavours Marketplace, a village of more than 80 stalls touting gourmet fare from across Queensland.

Celebrity chefs donning aprons this year include Miguel Maestre, Paul West, Poh Ling Yeow, Tobie Puttock and Georgia Barnes + the Masterchef judges – Gary, George and Matt - feature on the Main Stage.

South Bank Parklands Riverside Restaurants to be Turned Into Public Space

This year, South Bank Parklands is celebrating its 25th Birthday. At yesterday’s 25 Year Celebration event, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk announced that the flood damaged riverfront restaurant building will be redeveloped into a new public space.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

Griffith University Vice Chancellor Recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Vice Chancellor and President of Griffith University, Professor Ian O’Connor, has been recognised for contributions to the community in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 honours list.

Professor O’Connor was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia when Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove publicised the honours list on Monday June 12.

“I certainly didn’t expect to be the recipient of such as distinguished honour, and I am so grateful to the Griffith community who have helped it grow to a university with more than 200,000 graduates,” Professor O’Connor said.

Information Session - Queen's Wharf Brisbane

Business South Bank members are invited to an information session about Queen's Wharf Brisbane presented by Destination Brisbane Consortium.

In late May, the Plan of Development for Queen's Wharf Brisbane was lodged with Economic Development Queensland (EDQ). The Plan contains important surveys, assessments, maps and documents that demonstrate how the development will work.

As part of its process EDQ provides a 30-day public notice period.

BSB encourages members to attend this session to hear more about the Plan of Development and opportunities for comment during the notice period.

Tell us about your business/organisation?
ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival (a Trading division of Student Horizons Pty Ltd) is a music festival, open to secondary school concert bands, orchestras, choirs, and jazz bands worldwide. ASPIRE is a competition on a new level, attracting world renowned adjudicators from around the world and appealing to the best young musicians internationally.

Held over three consecutive days at world class venue Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in the South Bank precinct. Student participants will experience the competition, a masterclass,workshop, and a public performance.

What is your role at your organisation?
As Festival Founder I have played a role in the vision for the festival, building the ASPIRE team and developing robust relationships with key stakeholders.

What are your key skills and responsibilities?
Entrepreneurial vision, team leadership, stakeholder management and revenue generation. Responsible and accountable for delivering on our promise to our clients.

ASPIRE is a not for profit festival and any surplus is donated to the Foundation of Student Horizons to help support disadvantaged youth benefit from travel experiences

ASPIRE is a not for profit trading division of Student Horizons Pty Ltd. Student Horizons ( studenthorizons.com.au ) is a leader in educational travel.

What has recently happened at your organisation?
Dates have been set for ASPIRE 2019. The 2nd ASPIRE Festival will take place across the South Bank Precinct and key venues in the wider Brisbane district between the 18th and 20th July 2019 and we are keen to speak with organisations interested in ASPIRE 2019.

What have you learnt lately?
Foxtel are hard to deal with!

What do you hope to achieve in your industry?
I hope that the biennial ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival does its part in helping to put South Bank and Brisbane on the map internationally. The vision for the festival itself is
“ A world renowned youth music festival, fostering a culture of musical excellence and international connectedness, raising the aspirations of all students who take part”

What inspires you?
Human beings with a positive, can do attitude.
